I need to take some time to decide between Mayweather and Ward for 1 and 2. 3. Donaire 4. Martinez 5. Bradley
Ward's the champion at 168. If Dawson wants to try for that title that's his business. If Dawson didn't want to drop a weight class he should have fought Cloud or someone on boxing after dark and made pennies. Or tried to sell the amazing Dawson vs Hopkins III. Ward could have fought Bute, Kessler, Pavlik, or someone like that. If Dawson let his greed overcome his better judgement, that's not Ward's fault; Even if he was happy to oblige him.
How is it shocking? Marquez had had sustained dominance at 130-135. He moved up to 147 and beat Pacquiao who was then number 2. He is seen by many as second only to Mayweather in skill. Martinez is the middleweight champ of the world. That in itself carries massive weighy. He is a 5'10 light middleweight koing guys who tower over him and i beleve he will look sensational against Chavez. Ward is elite at 168. But i believe Dawson was dead at this weight. Although i have no problem with people ranking him higher but until Marquez or Martinez look bad I wont move him ahead. Now post yours
okay, that is why he doesn't crack top 5. :good because he obliged him like a ***** instead of going for history at 175.
People act like these fighters get to the arena the night of the fight and the opponent says, "oh by the way, the fight is at 168. Better hop in the sauna, good luck tonight" Who's the bad guy? The person fighting in the weight class he usually fights at and defending his title, or the greedy fighter who jumps all around the divisions damaging his career in exchange for the short money? Lol it would have hardly been historical. Even if he did, people still would say "Dawson couldn't even look great vs a 60 year old hopkins. Big deal."
It's nobody's fault but Dawson's for taking hte fight at 168, but that doesn't mean that it was his best strategic move. A rematch at 175 would be different for sure.
It won't be. Dawson can't fight on the inside and likes to fight at his own, slow pace. Ward has his number.
Maybe so, but due to his boneheaded move of wandering around weight classes to make a buck, we'll never see the 175 rematch since the first fight was so one sided.
I mean that's not so true. He still has his belts and can fight mandatories at the top of the division and if he beats them he'll still be a decent money earner and attraction. If he calls out Ward again he can do so demanding a catchweight and use the drained excuse, even if it's just an excuse.
