I have scored this fight with the sound on and still scored it for Charles.

I just don't want to be distracted by a babbling commentator, but I use my own judgement either way.

*When I watch silent movies, which I do rather frequently, I often turn down the score and watch in silence. It helps to concentrate rather than hearing a tinkling piano for 90 minutes. I think you might be making a mountain out of a molehill here, and, anyway, there is no "right" way.

It depends who the commentator is, I sometimes turn them off just because they annoy me. You should be able to score on sight alone anyway imo

The two knockdowns meant i had it clear for Kalambay in a hard fought competitive fight.

Maybe, but it's certainly not what judges do.

I'll finish watching it tonight when I'm not occupied. I had Johnson winning the first two, Charles winning the third.

Charles won 6-4 but it was close.

Never wrote it down, but I had it quite comfortably for Johnson. Wasn't really close in my book.

Cant dig out my scorecard but Ive always scored it a draw or a Johnson win by 1 or 2 points, and Ive watched this fight an ungodly amount of times, studied it even.

.....i've not been able to track this one down so i obviously have no opinion. no question though that charles was in his decline at this time and harold johnson was a great fighter.i've heardnit was a close fight, a d oddly, ezzard, who hardly ever complained about a decision even when he was obviously robbed called this one a home town one . he felt he should have been credited with a knockdown.

Harold johnson was as good a fighter as charles ever met. If ezzard had begun to decline it could not have been a close fight, but it was. watch the fight.

I'm the biggest Harold Johnson fan in the world, but that is an overstatement. Archie Moore was better, Jimmy Bivins was close, and Burley though smaller was probably better. Charles was not the consistent winner he was 5 or 6 years before. On the decline yes. Washed up no.

......i am one of johnson's greatest admirers.....and maybe he would have won over charles when ezzard was in his prime....but we will never know because ezzard was NOT at his prime in this fight. this is fact, not opinion.

Love Charles but its odd I've only seen the fight like 3-5 times. Great technical fight and I thought Johnson control it with his jab and better timing. Yes prime Charles could've taken him and possibly taken him out but that's hypothetical. Much credit to Johnson and he was too impressive of a fighter to be wiped out by a young Charles but its sports, things happen and I'm only going by hypotheticals. Wonderful fight which I should score.

I disagree with round 6 and 9 otherwise I scored the same as you. In the closer rounds I found Johnson was working off Charles whilst Charles took the lead. He was the hunter. Over the fight both were stunned a equal number of times but Charles made more impression.

Johnson doubled up his jab well at times and landed nice counters. when Charles was looking to set traps Harold wasn’t buying it. However there were as many times where I felt Johnson was on the outside and at risk from Charles better punching and it was Charles not Johnson who looked most likely to have the edge if there was one.

Will have to give this a rewatch but I remember scoring the fight for Johnson slightly. Close match and good fight between 2 world class technicians. I do agree that Charles was past it by the time Johnson fought him.
