What is your thought of bending below the waist as a defensive tactic?

Ok, it's illegal but hardly ever called.

For those times when it is done I don't remember a fighter getting punish with meaningful punches. First, there is very little legal target exposed and the legal target is so low that makes it difficult to get any leverage. Second, any offense is often on pause on both sides as both fighters are trying to figure out what to do next. So bending below the waist seems to be a good defense for a fighter to buy time to regroup.

I don't mean to bend below the waist for a long period of time like a shoulder roll, but in cases like interrupting an onslaught of punishing punches.

off balance guard lowered, body open for shots on the worst places (kidney liver organs vs skeletal tissue)
    point stands

Most guys who do it well like Toney/Golovkin shift their headslot while doing so

If you do it don't be surprised if you get hit in the back of the head.

I thought that it was illegal I know mayweather does it often...it should be illegal if it is not as its the same as basically taking a time out knowing the opponent cant possibly hit you or hit you with anything meaningful while you maneuver in that position .

Except you end up with a big strong boxer pushing down on your neck and/or putting you in a headlock which is VERY tiring
