What justification is there to NOT have Mijares in the top 3 P4P right now?

Where did i say Pavlik was in my top ten? The Ring magazine's perhaps, which is what i was comparing to. Once again, making an arse of yourself by assuming things champ. Secondly, i am not bringing up opinion, nor did i in my first post. I brought up fighters and perfomances, not my personal opinion on ability, which is what you are trying to push. You still never attempted to counter any of my points. Bad thread.

Exactly... You don't hear people crying for Cotto to be p4p no.1 based on his KO victory over Gomez do you??? Arce was always an average fighter, and his recent efforts have if anything, only cemented this.

I didn't counter any of them because I don't believe Mijares has a better resume than any of the fighters you mentioned except for Marquez. I claimed that he has a decent resume, and that I believe he's easily better than most the fighters you mentioned on a H2H basis.

You sure do love these " my post sounds more intelligent than yours " contests, don't you?

Splitting hairs is something he seems to specialize at.

I think Mijares beats the current version of Calzaghe.

You can't compare ability really when the weight disparity is that great. Lower weight fighters will always look faster and more active. You need to compare performance against overall comp, as in how dominant they were, and tough the opponents are. Calzaghe has beaten Kessler and Hopkins in recent fights, both tougher than ANYONE on Mijares resume, regardless of age for Hop, and both times has done so by clear although close UD. Until Mijares beats guys like Montiel or Donaire (preferably both) you are merely speculating how he will perform against top guys. Even then, he needs to be convincing, as these guys are still not elite fighters.

Perfectly said. Seems speculation almost counts as much as real results these days.

It gets a little ridiculous when you see "Munoz is P4P better then any opponent XXXX beat..." or "A CW version of Gamboa KILLS Haye..." type of posts.

Im a big Mijares fan but I certainly don't rank him top 3 P4P. His current accomplishment don't allow him to be and the only way you could make a case if it was soley H2H (Which it shouldn't be). Now, if Mijares beats Montiel + Donaire then there is certainly a case for him being Top 5 P4P.

I currently rank him about number 8, I see him going up the list in the near future though.

The other wordly skills have to be proven over time and against the best, its not best potential or who suddenly looks good, its why we fight the fights many higher skilled guys get beaten by the lesser skilled brethren because of the intangibles of the ring toughness dedication, guts, punching power toughness it all counts. Flawless technique is a big part but thats not all it is. Mijares is where he should be for now cracking the top ten.

Mijares isn't great because he beat Arce. He's great because he's clearly, observably great. The fact that he toyed with and humiliated a fighter of Arce's class (solid B) just reinforces that. His recent streak since then, and the extent to which he squashed all those opponents's (half of them world-class, the other half were appropriately blasted away) offenses and brutally picked them apart just nails the point home.

Arce is to Mijares as Lacy is to Calzaghe.

Both wins over seriously over-rated limited B-fighters whose names were built on their fan-friendliness in feeding on chum, nowhere near resume-best wins in terms of actual quality for the victors, but necessary and inestimably valuable in increasing visibility and branding power. Mijares has yet to have his "Kessler fight"...the closest so far would be Navarro (who was probably closer to Bika, in terms of the level of resistance and stylistic challenge despite being beaten quite clearly). Montiel will provide that type of win. Donaire will be his "Hopkins"...big-money big-name showdown. Hopefully he skips the Manfredo stage (or got it out of his system with Teppei and Franck).

I want the Mijares fanbase to be realistic now that he's gotten some press and regard, no need for this style of stuff anymore. I actually partially regret starting it in such extremist form, the new set of Mijares fans are really taking it to heart, at least he impressed them after the hype.
