I caught his last fight, he looked pretty good. I hope he gets another shot at a title, it would make for a good fight.
I'd say he will pick another title up. He has really developed his skills since leaving Manny he fell in love with his power and was loading up on everything. I liked his combination punching in the Angulo fight hopefully he sticks to it. There will always be questions over his mentality but he showed that he has a plan b if knocking a fighter out doesn't work for him.
His win over Angulo was well earned. Exciting fight, good win. I think he redeemed himself a bit in that, and it wasn't necessarily his fault that the officiating in his fight with Martinez was as bad as it was, though he did conduct himself like a vag. I think he should really try to get a fight with Berto, he'd get a belt and a good name on his resume if he won, and he should. Or Clottey after the Mosley fight.
Cintron was on his way to becoming something special around the time he ko'd Elio Ortiz, and Teddy Reid. Both of whom were Ring Mag rated top 10 ww. The he got a girlfriend, became her *****, turned on his team, and has been **** ever since. Go back and watch his fights with Ortiz and Reid. Smashed them both. Boxed, punched, moved, and good defense. Teddy Reid tried every dirty trick in the book, had round where he threw 100 plus punches, and landed some bombs on Cintron. End result... Kermit smashed him. Ortiz fight was nearl flawless.
Your right there he looked very good. After the Marg fight i thought he fell in love with his power. Watching the Estrada and Feliciano (ill leave the Matthyse fight out as it worked here) he was just looking to land that knockout punch and looked very sloppy. I shouldn't have said developed, more got back to what he used to do. I think i remember reading Manny said Cintron had stopped listening or wasn't doing what they had worked on in fights so they parted ways.
Let me say up front that there is not a person in the world I HATE more then Cintron, but when we were developing him as a fighter he really looked to be something special from the day he walked in the gym. With in 3 months of his first day in the gym he was going to war with former world champ Steve Little. We had him in camp with world class fighters from his fourth fight on. First Arturo Gatti, and then Andrew Lewis. The pattern was always the same. They would get the best of Kermit for about a week, and then day by day he figured them out and by end of camp he was either kicking ass or boxing on even terms. Before his fight with Ortiz we had him in camp for two weeks with Bernard Hopkins. They boxed 36 rounds. They split about 12 rounds a piece with the others being to close to call. The first sparring session between them had to be stopped due to the brutality of it. We were sure we had an all time great. Unfortunately Kermit's Achilles heal is women, and it took just one to ruin him. At the end of his training camp for Teddy Reid he was benching 255 for 5 reps, squatting 335 for for 5 reps, deadlifting 405 for 5 reps, and doing chin ups with a 90lb weight vest. He ran 8 miles in 47 minutes, and could run a single mile in the mid fours. Those days are gone. His wife is the boss, and he will never be the fighter he could have been.
Zab became the undisputed welterweight champion of the world though... ain't no way in hell Cintron is ever going to achieve something like that.
How long did you have Cintron up too and when did you start working with him? I was re-watching the reid fight there now just to make sure i hadn't said something stupid which i did. In that fight Cintron has a great balance of power and combinations, If anything he has regressed from what he was back then. Thanks for sharing that information i had no idea what cintron had been in the gym with. Shame about the women reading this post you had me very excited
Started with him as an amateur briefly. The he went to Terry Nyes gym in Lancaster PA. I saw his pro debut. Made him and offer, and he was with Marshall and I from then on. When he was with Marshall and I, and LISTENED... he was 24-0 22ko's
Girlfriends really do mess up a fighter's career if not ruin it. Viloria blamed his lopsided loss to Nino because the break up with his girl and ever since Malignaggi broke up with his girl (just before ngoudjo I believe) his career went into a spiral.
Sorry bro, Hicklet Lau, Luis Rosado, Elio Ortiz aren't exactly Tony Margarito and Sergio Martinez (or even David Estrada to be honest). Kermit didn't digress, he just started facing top level guys.
