I need some bag gloves and I was thinking of buying this pair, but I'm not sure if it's used for bag work or sparring. They don't make it very clear. It's 10oz. This content is protected Product Description: Supreme Quality Leather Boxing Gloves, Cowhide Leather Shell, Machine Mould Padding, Ventilated Palm, Generous Fitting, Attached Thumb, Wide VelcroWrist Closure Can you use this kind of glove on bag/pads?
i saw on the product description that it also says conforms to AIBA specs so I guess they're amateur gloves. I personally use 12 and 16 oz gloves for all my bag work so my hands are well padded and protected.
there's not really a rule of if you can or can't. I personally wouldn't. I'd look for gloves specifically designed for training or heavy bag gloves. Not the kind that look like they just slip over your hands like oven mitts.
Yeah, on the Bag Glove section of the website all the gloves are really cheap and look like oven mitts. I didn't want those ones. Do you think I'd be allowed to bring these gloves to the gym to use on the punch bags?
if you're in doubt, i'd ask the guy who runs the place but honestly, i don't see why they would care. people tend to care more about what gloves are being used against them when sparring than what's used on their bags. If you use a heavier glove though it'll do more for your conditioning and protecting your hands depending on the brand.
They don't sound like amateur gloves. Usually competition gloves have to be laced up. This glove uses velcro wrist closure, which is normally used for training gloves.
I thought that's how they were meant to be used since it has that white scoring area and that's how the website described them but that single closure threw me off. You can buy amateur gloves with a velcro closure but they're the kind with the attached sleeve that you pull down to cover the velcro up.
Yea, the other dude already mentioned it. But just to reiterate, I think the most important thing to do is, if you choose to use them as bag gloves, don't ever use them for sparring. The heavy bag is going to wear out the foam on those suckers. If you then use them for sparring, your sparring partners won't appreciate it much. At my old gym, our worn out sparring gloves eventually become bag gloves, but never the other way around. That way there are a lot less concussions to go around. As far as I'm concerned, there's really no point in spending hundred's of dollars on bag gloves. As long as it's reliable, fits well, and stands up to the abuse, the cheaper the better.
