Bruno would surely beat James Braddock.

Schaaf had brain damage Carnera stopped him with a left jab and he died later.Jesus Christ how desperate are you to win an argument? Listen to yourself!
Show me where Neusel was ranked. I never matched Loughran against Bruno.I pointed out Loughran was stopped by 2 men who could not hit anywhere near as hard as Bruno.
Jack Peterson? What did he ever do on the world stage?

At most, I'd really only believe that Witherspoon was taking his time. Smith and Lewis were both on the ropes, even more so in Bonecrusher's case.

I wouldn't be too sure if Baer didn't.

    IMHO Baer underestimated Braddock.
Bruno was completely equal to Lewis until the decisive shot.

Do you rank historical fighters particularly highly, based on fights where they were doing OK, until they lost?

    Of course you don't.

If you didn't have the boxed set, you wouldn't even know that they were doing OK until they lost, because nobody cares .

In what world do you not rate boxers based on their performances during the fight?

The world that is contingent on results.

This is after all a sport.

A sport that in which we are comparing fighters head to head, and that the performances that occur during the span of a fight are important, not only to how a fighter is viewed, but also how we judge a fighter when hypothetically putting him up against others.
We don't judge fights based on the outcome and nothing else, we don't trash scorecards cause someone got knocked out, and we don't simply watch the final round of any given knockout simply for the result.
Should I just go to Boxrec and view any given fighters losses, and make my opinions there?
"Well, Carnera got floored ten times against Baer, must be a bum."

A good question here is: What were Frank Bruno's best wins?
