What little moves & tricks have you seen recent ATG fighters take from older ATG's?

Bogo, have you got any gifs from Duran and Marquez doing the move?

Marquez uses a lot of the same combinations used by Chavez. He often cites Chavez in his Golpe a golpe analysis of fights.

I also agree with the Morales/Duran comparison. The way they throw the overhand right at times (a bit more downward) and their side to side movement.

I actually had a Marquez-Diaz one that I tried loading before, but it didn't work. It's this one:

This isn't the exact same counter, but here's one image of Duran setting up the overhand right mid-range:

(if anyone wants to add footage or a gif of the specific inside-slip overhand-right counter I'm talking about from Duran or Chavez, feel free.)

    :thumbsup

Feel free to add more people, I'm waitin!

I remember that clip; this video is actually what gives me hopes that the "secrets" of savvy trainers aren't necessarily being lost, they just need to be rediscovered by fighters and trainers alike who seek to be true students of the game.

I don't see this trick copied but it is wonderful.
    Chuvalo vs foreman.
    [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL7KnkWWXbQ[/ame]

    skip to 1:05.

Chuvalo plants his head in his shoulder once in his corner and proceeds to parry.
Even if foreman would hit Chuvalo full on the chin with a left it wouldn't have much power as the shoulder would absorb everything.

The right could only hit on top of the head which means it would have less KO power.

His defence is the most underrated thing in boxing.

Y'know, I hadn't noticed that before, but I can definitely see it. One of my all time favorite Marquez moments was when he knocked down Manuel Medina in the 2nd round of their fight, which started with Marquez parrying a right by Medina.

I can definitely see shades of Muhammad Ali's parrying in there. It makes me think specifically of him parrying Foreman in the Rumble, or Liston in their first fight.

See for example Ali slapping away Liston's jab at 17:32, or how he back away from a air of Liston jabs at 20:27 and slaps away the second, only to hit Liston with a straight right a moment later.

Good thread, thanks for pointing these out. :good

Old time fighter from the 30s-40, fought everyone from lightweight to middle. Part of the Murderer's Row, a group of black fighters that were avoided by everyone, many of them never got so much as a title shot.

Obviously they take it from their idols and the big names of the past. I loved the peek a boo style Tyson implemented from Frazier's bobbin and weavin. I like the shoulder roll defense personalized by Floyd and now Guzman and Broner from the old Philly shoulder roll. I enjoy the balls to the wall style Tomasz Adamek used as a LHWT and taken fron the great LHWTs of the 70s such as Matthew saad Muhammad and Marvin Johnson. Ricky Hatton also fought like a throwback.

That's a great clip of a fighter parrying out of a shell. Cotto often likes to shell up like that, without actually rolling his shoulder, and I remember him going into a purely defensive mode against Pacquiao and dodging some 5 our of 7 shots doing similar movements. But expertise in that particular technique is something seldom seen nowadays, no fighter comes to mind that can do it consistently. Thanks for posting it :good

:happy I'm glad someone else sees what I'm talking about, as it's not a readily identifiable comparison you'd think of right away. Those bits of footage are great examples; knocking away the jab and incoming straight punches while back-stepping to use the opponent's momentum against them is something the two excelled at.

Watching Omar Henry is like watching a less polished Miguel Cotto.

Omar Narvaez was a little like his countryman Niccolino Loche except Loche was far more talented of course.

Floyd copied his lead hook from Roy IMO. I haven't see anyone else use the lead hook as often as them.

Canelo is trying to learn the shoulder roll style but its difficult to learn without a coach proficient in using it IMO.

well he's probably not in the top 50 lb4lb today, but I like the philly fighter Yusaf Mack. rolling with shots and countering, watch him vs Librado Andrade. probably got that from watching some old tapes of Jersey Joe Walcott or one of those guys. also I like how Albert Mensah fought Katsidis fighting off the ropes very well.

And how could I forget; Donaire using his own version of the Dempsey roll, bobbing & weaving and sidestepping in and out while switching stances to land on his opponent at varying angles:

(Again, Donaire is not an ATG, but the inheritance of the move still stands.)
