Boxing fans don't appreciate it but his caution made him great. In those cases where he got reckless he got himself in trouble but generally he was very sensible and worked behind a great jab. He knew he didn't have the best chin in the world and fought accordingly.

    Sorry, still bitter about Vitali...

His jab was great, really great, how a jab should be, on his day he would give any HW in history problems.....thats great

as a Brit fighting his entire championship career in US ( more or less ) and beating all comers is a pretty amazing achievment.

hard to imagine any fighter beating him over 12 rounds, very clever man

There was a sports agent who worked among other sportsmen Lennox Lewis.

His advice for any sports man that wants to make it good is to what you love best and do it cos you love it and the money will take care of itself.

too many people put making money first before being a sportsman and it ****s them up.

He said Lennox Lewis when he was on top of the world with £100 million in the bank still went away for months at a time to train hard for a fight - he wasnt doing it for money - he just wanted to be the best.

Not everyone is like that - once money comes into it people just want to make the fastet buck they can and enjoy life.

But Lennox wasnt motivated by all the superficial things like money, women, flash stuff, boozing, parties - he just wanted to be the best at what he did.

Add that to his physical attritbrutes and over the course of time you see Lennox Lewis stand out as a the best of his era.

The jab is probably the signature punch of Lennox.

Other things that made him great was his ability to rematch both his conquerors and beat them, and also his boxing brain.

    - Excellent composite puncher. Lewis has great power and every shot in the book. His uppercut is one of the most underated shots in boxing. Not lightning quick, but his right behind the jab is very fast.

    - Accuracy. Lewis exhibited great accuracy in his second incarnation (Steward). He became a good finisher.

    - Jab. A function of his accuracy, Lewis was up there with Liston and Holmes when not using it as a range finder (Tua).

    - Height and Weight and Reach. And a gift for understanding the right way to use it. Fights big behind the jab, leans and pushes in the clinches.

    - Strength. An immensely strong human being. ONe of the strongest HW's of all.

    - Great Defensive Infighting. A function of his height, weight and strength, Lewis is maybe the greatest defensive infighter in the history of the division.

    - Backfoot Fighting. He can do it. See Tyson round 1. This is amazingly rare for a big man and Lewis may be unique in this ability. He can throw quickly whilst moving back reasonably quickly. It's part of what makes him an adaptable fighter (though he needed the right help to utilise this ability).

From the point of view of resume, he beat more punchers and contenders than anybody since Lewis, hammered everyone he ever met, was ducked by the two best fighters of his generation.
