His 1+2 "Double Jab" "Straight Right Hand" = Lewis.
His being K.O.d out twice with ONE single shot, is what keep's
him out of my top 8 All-Time HW list.... (Lewis around 9-10)

Lewis Could be knocked out with ONE punch, by the top guys.
Most others on the list were able to withstand more so than Lennox.

    Funamentals fundamentals fundamentals.

The rest of his arsenal was good, but his jab and right hand, be it straight or more overhand, were textbook perfect.

His sense of space and timing were incredible.

I'm going to proceed as if you mean more mobile, quicker on their feet? Sonny's footspeed was indeed his biggest problem (though as he wasn't a "really big fighter" in the sense that you mean, I don't think you consider this a generational issue?). Regardless, the type of size you are talking about only have two parallels at the highest level from long ago - Carnera, who was a paper champion missing power as well as speed, and Jess Willard, who turned pro at 27. Neither one of these men were impressive in terms of top level boxing, but they are the only ones available for a comparison. So it is unquestionably the case that the big men of this generation are faster than those from the previous generation.

The easiest way to say this is to say that HW boxers are getting bigger.

    OK :good

Yes, that's fair enough. My point was just that in fact!

There were far more pro fighters in the 40's than there are now in the US. More boxing clubs, too. Worldwide it would be an interesting comparison though.

Fighters with "optimal training facilities" (like the ones Hopkins had for his fight with Calzaghe) will be as rare now as then I would guess. But conditions are generally better for fighters if that's what you mean. As to how that might affect a given fighter? Well, it's certainly not the case that Klitschko is more primed for boxing than Liston was.

If Lewis was fighting in the Louis era, he would have been allowed to continue v McCall. He would have got KO'd by a combo in the follow up attack. This would have made you happier?

i know people talk about this KO by 'one shot' like it s a rare thing, there is usually only one shot that knocks a fella out, thy just happen to either take more before th fights stopped or are bashed up on the wa to being knocked out.

Tyson, Johnson, Louis, Liston, foreman, Frazier, Holmes were all knocked out at some point...

For some reason Tyson get beaten then knocked out by an uppercut, is better than getting knocked out but a big right hand threw blind...? Strange.

He's a top 10 heavy, easily, in legacy and head to head. Great resume, beat everyone he faced, great physical assets, great skills, great power. I have him at 5.

Imagine in the Dempsey Era....Jack would have been standing right over him and nailed him with a punch while dude was still on his knees..

Scary stuff, glad they changed that rule.

This is actually pretty good (didn't expect a good list after reading your above post).

Two things that stick out -

1 - Demspey is far to high. He had the most inactive run of any HW champ and he ducked the two best HW's of his generation (Wills and Langford). The best fighter he beat, Sharkey, he beat after a series of low blows and a blindside shot (which was fair enough - the blind shot I mean), the other great fighter totally outclassed, and admitedly past prime Dempsey. Jack is top 15, but no way top 5.

2 - Frazier is in possesion of maybe the greatest win in the history of the division (close to prime Ali). I think 12 is to low for me.

Finally, if you have Demspey this high, you need to look at Wills. He was Demspey's contemporary, Demspey failed to fight him and he has by far the better resume.

The mans whole career is a hoax! young good looking and popular. The kind of mannequin that is popular with the masses. HE MADE THE AVERAGE FAN WHO DIDNT GIVE A **** FOR BOXING CARE FOR HIM AND WATCH. The man is a total fraud and fake and those of us who require a bit more substance or fibre out of our heroes never bought into his career. To watch the machinations and his popularity rise while guys who worked harder or just as hard got the shaft was appaling. Today to now watch this guy almost like a bully call out smaller guys than him so he can go out a winner is gutless. This guys whole career was a hoax and he will be remembered and placed high on P4P list by the masses who have never known **** anyway. Its easy to hate a phony who was greedy and took advantage of his popularity and always too the path of least resistence and never to this day proved that he was anything other than what he always was a matinee idol that could be sold to the public to make millions. .

delete somehow this got on the wrong thread what the ****!!!!!

I don't feel this way...I always feel that one would be close. Pick Lennox though.
