Precise Puncher on YouTube covered this exact topic earlier today. Hit the nail on the head. Check it out.

BTW... Solis beat Ortiz 4 times in the ams.

And Ortiz would knock Solis the **** out in the pros. Amateur wins don't mean **** in the pros.

Vitaly's win over that guy is barely worth mentioning, given the farcical circumstances. Fight might as well've never happened.

What the corpulent quitter did in the ams is irrelevant, his professional career was/is a complete bust. Heck, the same Tony Thompson that Ortiz destroyed with ease beat Solis twice.

Let's give Wilder his dues. Ortiz > Solis.

There are actually some parallels between Solis and Ortiz

Ortiz got his title shot off the back of beating Jennings, who lost to Wlad Klitschko in his only title challenge

Solis got his title shot off the back of beating Ray Austin, who lost to Wlad Klitschko in his only title challenge

Aside from those victories neither Ortiz or Solis did much as a pro. Yes Solis was junked like a sack of potatoes by an old Vitali, and Ortiz put up a better job. But it doesnt change how both of them got their title shots.

I dont think Ortiz will do much after this loss, as he is actually really really old and lacks the motivation. Solis didnt do much after his loss against Wlad either.

I stated that numerous times to somebody else when they were typing about how great Ortiz was a amateur. He was skilled as a amatuer but has prove nothing as a pro.

    Luis Ortiz > Odlanier Solis

...and that's all there is to it.

When was the last time a boxer lost 9 times to an opponent in the amateurs and then went on to knock that opponent out in the pros? Never happened before!

Let that sink in for a moment! Luis Ortiz lost 9 FRICKIN times to Odlanier Solis and was rendered irrelevant, ineffective and useless in the Cuban boxing team due to Solis. He always played second tier and as a cannon fodder to Solis.

I don't care whether it's the pros or the amateurs. If a boxer loses 9 times in a row, in any boxing match to a particular opponent, then it shows that they are simply an inferior boxer. 9 fights and wins in a row is a very big SAMPLE SIZE!

Luis Ortiz had his chance to also fight during the Klitschko era against either Klitschko brother but refused.

Luis Ortiz's best opponents that he beat are two of Wladimir Klitschko's left overs. One was already coming off a loss in Bryant Jennings. The other was old, washed up and a 45 year old man when Luis Ortiz beat him in Tony Thompson. Otherwise, Luis Ortiz hadn't accomplished anything in the pros worth anything more than what Odlanier Solis did.

The fact that Luis Ortiz is one of the top 3 heavyweight boxers today, should tell us the quality of the current heavyweight division. Especially when the top 2 heavyweight boxer today in Deontay Wilder goes life and death against this same Ortiz by losing every round and almost gets stopped in the 7th round until referee intervenes and causes a time out to allow Wilder to recover.

A better boxer in Odlanier Solis was KTFO in 1 round by Vitali Klitschko.

Odlianer has a 7-0 record vs Luis in the amateurs and used him as a sparring partner for years.
