He was self-made, took the hardest route to the title, being seemingly frozen out for years before he got his chance. Got a rough deal from the judges I think its true to say and developed an outsiders mentality, believing that he would never get a fair shake and this drove him on to be better and better. Got his share of superfights too.

When people criticize Hagler for fighting smaller opponents, what they don't seem to realize is that Marvin was seen as the king of the hill, where the big bucks were, and those smaller guys were trying to knock him off it...not the other way around.

Agreed; such an argument serves to also ignore the body of work he did before getting the title. Lots of tough guys on his resume before he fought Duran and Hearns.

All three of his prime "blemishes" (the Watts & Munroe losses and draw in Antuofermo I) came to guys that in most eras at 160lbs including the present, with any sort of competent promotion backing them, would have little difficulty acquiring world title belts.

Not to mention that he probably really deserved the decision in both the Watts and Vito fights.........

Bo Jackson was something, but Jim Brown and Wilt Chamberlain were just as good as Jackson at various sports.

...I was also being facetious, pointing out the fallacy of the OP's logic with a more absurd example of discrediting someone for not 'diversifying' enough. (in Jordan's case, belittling him for not excelling at other sports, which is no less absurd than diminishing Hagler for not weight-jumping)

this site gets like a youtube comments section way too often, people flying off the handle at **** that isn't even there, except here it is way sadder because here it is adults acting like that.

, Hit the nail on the head:yep

The reason Hagler never moved up in weight is because he kept in shape in-between fights, and wasn't lazy, and besides if it isn't broke don't try to fix it...

Great blue collar, old school fighter:smoke

Hagler is a top 4 ATG 160 pounder imo.
