What made Mayorga such a problem for Shane and Margo No problem at All?

Boxers and fights continue to surprise me. IMO Sugar Shane struggled against Mayo, and if it wasn't for the last second KO..i believe Mayo would have had a very good chance of winning the fight. After the fight between Mayo and Shane i was saying Margo had a better chin, threw more punches, slightly better technically, and had more stamina than Mayorga; so Shane would get dominated and maybe even stopped fo r the first time. Although i really wanted Shane to win i didn't see how he could. To me Shane had fallen off in the last 3-4 years, and had'nt had a significant KO in years, excluding his KO over a shot Vargas. The only thing i can think that made a difference is Shanes hand speed and his dogged determination that broke Margo's will in the end. My Questions I have for this forum is what was the difference between Shanes struggle with Mayorga and ease he beat Margorita with, AND also how would u explain and rate Shanes power. I loved Shanes power between 99-2003, but i really haven't seen much of it until this fight. Power wise i think Shane rates 4 or 5 in the division. I rate Cintron,Cotto,Paul Williams, and Margarito ahead of Shane power wise, yet none of them managed to even stun Margo.

Simple, Mayorga is a better fighter. You'll see that on FEb.18th when he takes care of Angulo.

I guess you can look at this a number of different ways. I think Shane was sharper, more focused and had the perfect gameplan for beating Margo. Looking back, Cotto pretty much dominated Margo for the first five rounds. Where he ran into a problem is that he wasn't as physically strong as Margo and refused to clinch. Shane used combinations and angles (similar to Cotto in Rounds One-Five), but then was able to stay off the ropes and clinched whenever he was in trouble. The other way you could look at it is to take into account what happened before the fight. If Margo really was planning on using illegal hand wraps, and had done so before (which may have led to some of his success), and then was "discovered" as a cheater a half an hour before the fight, who knows what that did to him mentally. To me, more than anything else Margo looked different mentally and maybe that situation took away a lot of his confidence and had him questioning his ability and legacy as the opening bell sounded. Regardless, kudos to Shane. Great fight!

Mayorga came into the fight at 170. That's the main difference.

Some fighter's just have trouble with Mayorga's style too.

Shane was one of them, just like Forrest was.

Mayorga was also more cautious against shane than he was against other opponents. He didnt try to fight with him as much as he did previously in his career. He looked to clinch after throwing combos and employed the same tactic after mosley would tag him in an attempt to limit damage.

sugar shane said it best himself, his main motivation was just everything negative that was going on with him. plus mayorga is an awkward fighter for just about everyone he's faced. my hats off to shane for taking everything with a smile despite the adversity he's gone through. he's definitely a class act and an inspiration to take roids. :D jk on the last part

Mayorga is underestimated on a regular basis, came into the ring at 170lbs (!), and Shane chose to brawl with him rather than break him down with superior boxing. Mosley fought a different kind of fight last night .

Mayorga is a very underrated fighter. His style is unorthodox with punches coming from odd angles - making it hard to time him. Margarito was much easier for Shane to time as his punches are not wild and unpredictable.
