I thought Cuevas deserved that decision.

Always wanted to see the film of Andy the Hawk vs Cuevas and Palomino.

He was at one point in time the uncrowned welter champ with wins over the two champions. Should have gotten a shot at one or both. Leonard nuked him in one round in his big step-up primetime TV opportunity and he basically never got back to within reach of the top.

Thank you so much — actually a lot of highlight footage there, feel like I watched nearly half the fight. Some good work by both men. Obviously not enough to score as we don’t have complete rounds, but clearly very close and competitive.

(Also had forgotten how they used to set off firecrackers in the crowd for those West Coast fights, haha.)

It also gives me hope the entire fight will show up on YB or somewhere some day — no way they had that much footage without the whole fight being intact somewhere.

I’m also anxious for Pipino-Shields to resurface. I know I watched it on YT some years ago but it’s up and vanished from the internet. Want to score that one if it does turn up.

It was a very good action packed fight and very close and Price I thought deserved the win.

He was one dimensional but maxed the only single dimension he had to a whole nother level.

Imagine a dude that rarely took a step back to the ropes, while also spamming hard shots from hard to predict angles, and suddenly you can feel a hammer landing on your right cheek...

It's all darkness, you can only hear your corner screaming for medical assistance.

Pete Ranzany was a very good fighter.

Pete is a textbook ‘there are levels to this’ guy.

Saying Randy Shields is a better win than Ranzany overlooks that Pete went 1-0-1 vs Randy (cuts stoppage in a fight when he was ahead late and a two-round technical draw that I assume was stopped also on cuts).

Ranzany found his ceiling in going 0-for-3 vs Ray Leonard, Pipino Cuevas and Wilfred Benitez, but he was a solid NABF champ when that meant something, with good wins over the likes of Shields, Clyde Gray, handing Adolfo Viruet his first L, Bruce Finch, Jimmy Heair and others.

He absolutely earned his title shot and is one of Cuevas’ better defenses imo. I’d still rate his three wins over Angel Espada as his highest marks in title fights.

I think he also beat O'Grady iirc.

Yep, at welter, Pete’s natural weight but a bridge too far for Sean. It was a very good and competitive fight, but I don’t think O’Grady’s heart was completely in it by this point. Still, a good win for Pete.
