really? id say ray took a lot of chances in his career, like he just BELIELVED he could out-gun anyone in a slugfest, and the times he took it to the opponents, he counted on his chin, he took a lot of chances to knock out the other guy.

    ask carmen basilio.
robinson was easily out jabbed by randy turpin and lamotta outjobbed robbie for long periods in their 6th fight.he had trouble, but not always, with tall fighters such as long forgotten henry brimm

Turpin had a fine jab, clearly it was the tool that enabled him to perform so well against Robinson. I just think that there's too many good showings of Robinson's jab for it to be labelled a weakness. Like against Bobo Olson, it might not look the most flashy or whatever, but he's dominating rounds on almost exclusively that punch.

don't get me wrong i think the sugarman was near perfect but his jab, especially for a tall man was not that great.

I'll have to meet you in the middle and just say that it's not as strong as his other assets.

No, for being so offensive I don't think he took that many chances. I think a large part of his game was to wait until the right minute to pounce and then do his job. Not that he was docile before then, though. Just not baring the full extent of his arsenal.

I didn't mean he took zero chances in there, of course he did, but I always get the feeling of him as a pacing predator waiting for the exact moment to make his move.
