    To me it's Greb.

But there are other names that also come up depending on who you ask. SRR is a good call for the GOAT but he's by no means a consensus choice.

Well, I’m Ali’s biggest fan but you’re wrong.

He, SRR, is the one most cited though, outside of 'casuals' and non boxing people, who would cite Ali, but among serious fans, researchers and historians, I think SRR is the one most often cited.

there are arguments for the likes of Greb, Benny Leonard, Louis, Armstrong, Pep and Ali of course, among perhaps a few others.

but I would state Ray Robinson without doubt!

I'd also argue for JJW, Charles and Lloyd Marshall in the Mix.

What made SRR the consensus GOAT?

    Lack of Greb footage.

Very well said, & Robison was 122-1-2 at one points-only losing once to The Raging Bull, who outweighed hm by 16 lbs.
Once quibble: Ali ha list only 3 foghts by 36, nothing like a "busload".

Nice post, not with you on the JJW AND Marshall as the GOAT, Charles rates very, very, high, but not number 1 in my book. stay safe buddy.

He just looked impressive in film, and that's it.

Ezzard Charles is a tenfold times better fighter in terms of H2H ability, accomplishments and resume IMO.

Officially but there were some fights post Manila that were dubious.

True. But that is both not what you said, & in no way can adding all those in add up to a "boatload".
You could say that about Ezzard Charles, but that is because he fought on for a while with ALS.

The eye test plus anyone who follows the sport. Its incredible how this question is asked when its pretty much acknowledged hes in the top 2 as a bare minimum

I'm lost. I thought looking bad on film was an automatic asterisk? Looking impressive is bad as well? This seems like an argument about technical skills versus the full package. Pretty common around fighters like SRR, Ali, SRL, and RJJ.

I mean, there is nothing wrong with taking Langford, Greb, Charles and Armstrong over him.
