His welterweight career gets overlooked a lot.

well he had KO power in both fists (esp. at 147, probably the hardest hitting welter of all time) he had fast hands, he was a great counter punch, his boxing skills n footwork are the reason people use the word "beautiful" to describe it now a days.....also he had a granite chin, he was a very clever fighter, and even if with his guard down he could avoid shots off reflexes alone

basically he's the most complete fighter of all time, plus he was a big welter @ 5'11....the man had it all

Because he had a complete collection of physical tools needed to be successful in boxing (speed, power, chin, stamina, etc you know the works) and the best part is, he used it and did not sit and padded his records with wins over patsies. He fought the who's who of 147 and 160 divisions during a time it was filled with guys who are also carving HOF legacies as well. Lamotta, Gavilan, Graziano, Armstrong, Fulmer, Basilio and a whole lot more. If he was fighting today, maybe three of those names mentioned could land him a spot at P4P. And to think, he is indeed much better at 147.

He had no weaknesses, all of his assets could be called great: speed, power, chin, style, brains, heart, athleticism all top notch. Put Hagler's chin on Hearns body, you get Robinson.

Speed, power, accuracy, toughness, resume, era, heart, just about everything.

There's enough video out there that anyone can watch his fights and see how great he was.

Watching this guy fighting in his prime is like watching all the best bits of other great boxers moulded into one ultimate fighter; such power, speed and fluid movement; he could box a consumate boxer and make him look like an amateur, he could brawl a hard-ass brawler and kick six different kinds of **** out of him; if you had a good chin he could still take you out with one shot; A big puncher could smash him full in the face and he wouldn't even blink; he really did seem to have it all.

Knowledgeable fans will argue about who slots in at 2,3,4 etc in the all-time lists, but Sugar Ray is almost always out on his own at No.1; the guy is untouchable as the best boxer ever.

    The supreme fighter.
