This. The Mayweathers reached the point in the case where they couldn't stall any further. They had no case and just had to settle. They reached that point when the judge fined Floyd over $100,000 for refusing to be deposed. Which is where Manny's lawyers would get to question Floyd on the record about what he said and what he knew, and that record could be introduced later at trial. Since Floyd refused to be deposed, the next step would have been for the judge to enter a default judgement in Manny's favor and award him money damages. Rather than let the judge do that, the Mayweather's settled the case by making an undisclosed cash payment to Manny and issuing the statement we've all seen.

The Mayweathers could have allowed themselves to be deposed and taken it all the way to trial, but most likely their lawyers advised them that it would have been public, embarrassing and, if they lost the case, even more expensive for them.

They settled - there was no ruling. The only recent move by the judge was to sanction Mayweather for failing to show up at a deposition.

It would have been so easy and a dream come true for them to just sit in a chair and tell what a cheat PAC is. That's so normal for them, how can they dodge and run away from that .

As a practicing attorney (albeit not a litigator), here's my guess:

Probably the docket schedule. This kind of case can sit out there for years if nobody presses the issue, and nothing happens until the judge makes time for it. Once the judge starts paying attention, the lawyers need to start working on it and it gets very expensive very quickly. Considering May was probably going to lose the case no matter what (he pretty clearly did defame Pacquiao by the law of most US jurisdictions), after seeing the bill from the first round with the complaint and answers, it probably didn't take long to figure out that it's a lot cheaper to settle the case than to try to defend it.

If Mayweather paid an undisclosed amount then why did Pacquiao pay his own legal fees? :huh

Three months in jail changes you. Considering how much Mayweather makes in a year, unless Manny got some big $, which I doubt, it's peanuts. And for all you fools who think this proves Manny is innocent, you must be Barry Bonds fans. Manny's PED head is the eight wonder of the world.

Floyd made the call.....bottom line....Floyd obviously didn't want to be in court again. He didn't want to go through the deposition, getting grilled by lawyers knowing the outcome would only make him look worse and costing him a GRIP!

I think Floyd always knew that this whole thing would come back and bite him in the ass.....but he was holding off as long as he could to avoid having to go through this embarrassing process where he had to admit wrong and having to pay up an undisclosed amount of money.

Floyd's pride hurt him....had he just followed Oscar and GBP he wouldnt have had to pay up. Life lessons..:smoke
