My sick pleasure from seeing people get punches in the face, especially characters that I cant stand. Someone introduced to me the Ward Gatti trilogy when we were discussing film trilogies and I’ve never really looked back since.
Paulie Malignaggi vs Juan Diaz 1 was one of the first fights I watched that wasn't a ppv at a bar. I was pissed because Juan Diaz so clearly lost. Then I got pumped for the rematch. Then they had the upcoming schedule and I kept watching. And a few month later I watched everything. Before hand I played fight night round 3 a lot. Then got back into it and started to box more than score knockouts. I watch boxing a lot and most times I don't have a dog in the fight I find my scoring is pretty on point when I don't care who wins either way. I'm learning to see round by rounds where people clearly love or dislike a boxer the scoring can be a bit off but I don't take it personally. I've learned from watching hockey or NFL that people get so passionate that they can be a bit subjective.
Watching Amir Khan and Joe Calzaghe on Channel 5 as a kid. Also my Dad showed me old Chris Eubank and Mike Tyson fights.
Fury vs Klitschko. For some reason I was fascinated with the idea of a 6ft 9 inch man fighting. I saw the gloves are off and fell in love with Fury a bit. Watched the fight on a stream. Fury won, and even since then I loved it. I also watched Joshua vs Whyte and that also got me hooked. Followed Joshua mainly since the Wlad vs Joshua fight that amazing.
Circa early nineties with Lennox winning the European, British and Commonwealth belts (just before he seriously bashed up Ruddock).
My pops got me watching it. He would BBQ sometimes, by snacks and we would watch Wide World of Sports. He'd drink a lityle and start talking about Ezzard Charles, Carmen Basillio, Archie Moore and of course Sugar Ray Robinson. The 1st fighter I got into watching was Larry Holmes. Then Salvador Sanchez. Then was hooked when Alexis fought Aaron Prayor and Mancini. Good memories.
Watching Oscar De La Hoya and Mike Tyson as a kid. And also watching Pacquiao's fights in Filipino family gatherings.
Probably started as a kid the 80's with Tyson and Frank Bruno, then solidified in the 90s with Benn / Eubank Sr / Watson and many other great matchups but those rivalries really got me hooked
Being Chinese grew up watching martial arts films and TV series, so fighting was always a form of entertainment from a young age. The first fight I can remember being interest in was Tyson/Bruno 1. I can recall waking up in the early hours and listening to the fight live on the radio. Then of course you had Chris Eubank and me being from Brighton like Eubank that made me follow his career. Tina Turner's song Simply the best gives me chills even to this day because of the use of that song as Eubank's entrance music. Then Hamed came along, with his swagger and power and that turned me from being a casual fan to a hardcore fan.
