In my case it was my grandfather, his son and his son in law (my dad) always talking about Ali, Duran, Gomez, Benitez, Arguello, De Jesus, Escalera, Pambele (Antonio Cervantes) and Zarate and then watching on TV.

    You?

Some great sports anime named Hajime no Ippo,it takes a pretty realistic take on Japanese boxing,or even international, there's some unrealistic stuffs like how a fighter could monologue a ton inside a fight where most of their monologue are translated by their fists,or how a hard shot at the heart could make a person stop.

Still,it was a very fun anime,I think the first season was the finest overall, it's pacing, char building and story tops the other 2 seasons (good, but a bit slow),and after the 1st season o recommend to watch the Mashiba vs Kimura movie, you'd root for that movie's main char when you see how he was as a char in the main series.

I was a kid during the 70s the full Golden HW era; so being a boxing fan was as mandatory as a vaccine shot.

Ali, Joe, Foreman, Kenny, etc. were all over the news. Big fight nights would stop the town and the next morning all the kids at the schoolyard would be commenting the fight.

Back then every 7-years old was getting boxing gloves for Christmas.

Thus I suppose being a boxing fan was sort of unavoidable.

I remember that, when I was a kid, my dad told me something along the lines of, "Wanna see something incredible?"

Obviously, I said, "Hell yeah." The guy put on the highlights of the Brawl in Montreal. I'll never forget the big-ass grin I had while watching it — love at first sight.

I was reading a lot about Mike Tyson.

    That's literally how it started.

My grand uncle was a boxer who shared a common opponent with Jake LaMotta. But the gentleman in my avatar is who made me a boxing fan.

I was a teenager and watched a documentary on Muhammad Ali ... thought he was amazing and captivating. Sought out all his fights and got into 90s boxing from there ... Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis, Roy Jones etc

    Hi Guys.
As far as I can remember, my dear old dad let me sit up late to listen to the 1964 title fight Clay v Liston, radio 4 as I recall, we didn't do much together afraid to say, he was a hard working painter and decorator, with not much time to spend with his kids, sign of the times.
    stay safe guys, chat soon.
    Mike.

The Leonard-Hearns I fight in 1981 sealed the deal. Watched it at my roommate's frat house with a bunch of college dudes, many of whom were quite inebriated.

Good times! Although my dedication has waxed and waned, I haven't stopped being a hardcore boxing fan since.

My Dad and older brother. Otherwise, when I was at school, no one had a clue about boxing history or current fighters.

I recall mentioning Foreman to a mate at school in the early 80s (pre comeback) and my mate had no clue as to who George was. Lol.

When long forgotten Foreman started his comeback in ‘87 my jaw absolutely dropped. Totally surreal.
