Tyson and my dad. My dad is a big boxing fan and he used to watch tuesday night fight on USA network. So i started to get into boxing more. Everytime there's a PPV fight i would go with him to a friends house and watch the fight. Bowe-Holyfield 1-2-3 Jones-Toney Whitaker-Mcgirt Whitaker-Chavez Some of the fights i remember back then.
My Mum and Dad waking me up in the middle of the night to go downstairs and watch Mike Tyson in the '80s. I'd have been about 10 or 11 years old at the time and those nights were as exciting as Christmas for me. Some of my most treasured childhood memories those...
sugar ray leonard vs hearns . That made me a fan. i have seen a few fights before that as a child but that is the one. would also like to mention Marlin starling and young james toney . WOW
HA! You know, maybe there was truth to when I was told LaLonde was hypnotized leading up to the fight. Apparently it's something some boxers do: [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9x2UY1gQX38[/ame] What's even funnier (or spookier) is that in the background in the beginning of the interview, you can see the LaLonde/SRL poster!!!!
Back in the 80's when I was a kid, boxing was on regular free-to-air TV. I got to see Hagler, Leonard, Hearns etc and later Benn, Eubank et al, all for free. That's what made me a fan. Today boxing is a dying sport because the kids don;t get to see any.
when floyd mayweather first appeard on mtv cribs and then manny pacquiao winning the elections made me a hardcore fan.
I randomly started watching Hajime no Ippo after having the series recommended to me and i loved it. Started watching boxing on HBO and Showtime and before I knew it I was recording classic fights on ESPN, buying books on boxing and joined a boxing gym. An awesome sport that is in desperate need of being restructured.
My grandma..she use to make me watch boxing with her when she baby-sat me. Looking back at it, it was hillarious. Here you have my old white haired grandma, my crippled uncle who was paralized from the neck down since almost birth, and a 5 year old watching fights on the spanish channel, betting pennies and nickels against each other. Good times :yep
after stepping into a boxing gym the philosophy and the life lesson it teaches oscar/rjj era growing up in the 90s
