In your views, what makes a boxer a champion. I dont mean by winning a alphabet title, but in your views is a boxing champion a long undefeated streak, a high ko ratio or the heart to come back from a defeat and still win a title. My views are the latter.
A long undefeated streak looks good, but means nothing unless the opposition is good and the wins are decisive and not gift decisions. Also I do like the triumph over adversity stories of fighters whose careers looked to be in the doldrums, but who fought there way back to contention and won a title. Basically a belt holder who is willing to fight the best out there regardless of the money and whether he has to travel to his opponents backyard. None of this should make a difference if you fight the best and beat the best then you are a true champion.
Seeking out and beating the best on your division. -See Shane Mosely if you want a textbook definition of what a true champion embodies. -See Floyd Mayweather jr. if you want to see a textbook example of a paper champion.
Lol! Can't fault him...I changed my name to COLD -HARD-TRUTH CAUSE I mispelled my orginal name The Thruth!!!!! and couldn't chang it in my profile settings....
on boxing ability yes i would classify Suger shane as a champion, but taking drugs, that has stopped me thinking he's a true champion
Amen, Sandman. Well said. Long undefeated streaks and high KO ratios can be a product of poor competition, but fighting seeking out and beating the best competition defines a champion in my eyes. In today's boxing world we have quite a few belt holders and titlists, but not a lot of real champions.
Shane Mosely had the balls to fight Vernon Forrest and risk his "0" against the most avoided guy at 147 at the time....even though he lost, he fought him again like a true warrior. Mayweather retired instead of doing what Moesly did, and than did again at 154 against Winky. Came back down and fought Cotto (which Mayweather would never do) and now wants AM after Mayorga. Thats a true champion my friend...sick of hearing about the drug bs. :verysad
you may very well be sick of hearing it, but facts are facts my friend. As i said i am nevr doubting Suger shane as a boxer, think he is terrific, i'm just throwing my view out there.
-Gives their all in each and everyone of their fights, and always put boxing first. -Consistently fights and win (at least most of the time) against the best fighters at their respected weight class and takes risks every now and then. -Can adjust to difficult situations in the ring. -Carry's him or herself well outside boxing (though this isn't always necessary but it helps). -Rarely makes excuses if he or she should lose a bout (I say rarely because in boxing a bad decision can happen anytime and I wont blame a fighter for believing he won a fight if its within reason). -A good record helps as well as a period of being on a good winning streak (including winning some titles).
