What makes Adam Booth such a good trainer?

He was a snake oil salesman to some degree. Certain trainers acquire a cache of mystique due to a combination of flimflam and a good run/result with a certain fighter, then it inevitably all calms down in leaner times. Nazim Richardson springs immediately to mind - you couldn't get away from that guy on boxing forums in 2009, he was unquestionably the greatest oracle ever to grace his profession and it was a coin toss between "swim without getting wet" and "knock the grease off this dude" for the distinction of being the sageliest utterance of all utterances ever uttered in a fighter's corner.

Booth is a pretty good strategist. He's a calm presence in the corner and will do his best to check a fighter and keep his mind on the plan or try to identify remedies if things go awry. He has some creative preparation methods. On the other hand, he only truly works well with a certain set of attributes that lend themselves to the rather one-dimensional Booth style - it is with explosive, dynamic athletes that he achieves his best success, most conspicuously with Haye due to the immense punching power he was able to harness in the Bermondsey man (when he says that Ryan Burnett is the best pure talent he's ever worked with, he's having a laugh - it's Haye, and may always be Haye). He's never going to train a mediocre athletic specimen to box like Billy Graham, because he's not a great technique coach in any rounded sense. Andy Lee, groomed for years as a classical, stand-up boxer-puncher in the Kronk vein, was behind on points in both of those notable KO wins with Booth, and it was only his right hook that bailed him out. Now, granted, Andy's money punch would've been gameplanned on to a degree, but I doubt it was Adam's intention for his guy to be losing fights clearly and relying on big single bombs to get him out of jail. Aside from the big right hand, Lee was an awkward fit for Booth's style -- Booth even admitted that he initially saw "nothing" in Lee and was baffled at the prospect of doing "work with a guy like this" -- and it showed in the results, which were very spotty outside of the spectacular KO's (which I think owe to Lee's experience as much as anything Adam had him doing).

I will say that he would've been a really good fit for a guy like Carl Frampton recently.

I find Brother Nazeem Richardson spot on. He was clear about Mosley’s chances against Floyd about a small window of opportunity if not taken would be closed.

The Ingles have a fantastic record stretching back decades, but it's too early to tell with Booth really. In years to come, that's where the test will be. If he goes on to coach more world class operators, who knows?
