What do you think makes a fighter an ATG? Skills?

IMO, the #1 criteria for an ATG is resume. Anybody can look good against bums, but it takes a great fighter to beat top competition. Just as important as WHO you've fought, is WHEN you fought them. A win over a great fighter is less impressive if said fighter was past his prime. The sign of a TRULY great fighter is one who not only consistently beats top opponents, but dominates them.

Resume is by far the most cricial component. Skills are harder to determine greatness on without the resume. For example....Zab Judah had excellent skills and fought good fighters, but he didnt have that X factor that equals greatness. Guys like Marciano or Frazier didnt have the greatest skills, but they did have that X factor to GO with their respective skills.

Well an ATG for me is made either by resume or longevity, when you compare ATG's against one another though you take skills into account as well.

Resume. It's too easy for a guy like Berto to look elite against poor or hand picked opposition, then get eaten alive by a decent fighter.

ODH is the best example. People say he lost his big fights but what these idiots overlook is that with the exception of 2 fights he nearly won most of those fights AND they were prime top level fighters. His resume is excellent...losses included.

Longevity is also very important. Take someone like Wlad, not a very deep resume because of his era, but hes pretty much cleaned it out. It takes a great fighter to remain that focused for that long.

CV. Who did you beat and how did you beat them? Only questions that matter.

Combination of skills and the willingness to take on all comers is required for me

Level of competition is also very important

You can get into the Micky Ward dilemma; he's not a great fighter yet he's been in some of the greatest fights ever:think

Seems like to be an ATG first and foremost you have to be retired a while and have a lot of people overlook your shortcomings and what you actually did in the ring.

Skills look pretty against opponents that had little hope. For me, applying those skills against the best is the only way to determine how great a fighter is. Whether a career lasted 5 or 25 yrs is secondary. You can win all the belts and trinkets, but a real champion leaves no doubts. I don't care about what style a fighter has, styles don't make you great.

All you can do is fight who's in front of you. (No ducking, avoiding the biggest threats) If you hold a belt for over ten years and dominate, I think that should make you an All Time Great :good :hat :bbb

According to *****s to be an ATG health would be your first priority, you would have to defeat great like Baldimor, only take fights that you can win, and stay undefeated.
