I was originally a fan of MMA, but often found myself conversing with MMA fans who were also boxing fans, and started to take a real interest in it, as I had MMA. I actually started reading up on it to be able to keep up with some of the guys, and to come up with concise arguments against the ridiculous MMA fans who considered boxing a dead sport, and thought certain MMA fighters were better boxers, etc which I knew even then was completely ridiculous.

After a while, I just started gaining more and more interest, and when I have a large interest in something, I will devote time to it and study it. As MMA began to fall in my eyes with the inconsistency and my boxing knowledge started to sky-rocket, I eventually just kind of switched favorites. I'll still get the MMA PPV's with friends, and am still a big fan or certain fighters, but boxing is by far the better sport in my opinion.

Funny, I'm a converted MMA fan, pretty hardcore also, I don't miss the events and I train in it 3-4 times a week in addition to my boxing and other martial arts.

I really like MMA, I was doing just BJJ, but then switched to a submission grappling/MMA facility that's much more hardcore and I enjoy it A LOT more than Gracie-Barra, which was catered to the average guy and women as well as serious students, but the black belts there were really great.

However... not as good as some of these sub-wrestlers.

it is a number of things coming together to create living art. the history, the pageantry, the drama and the representation by two men of those ideals we hold in highest regard such as courage, determination, and the spirit shared by warriors since the birth of man. every once in a while all these things come together and you have magic happen in front of the whole world. a great fight is like a fabulous poem that describes the best in us as well as the worst.

MMA started to fall off for me when all the best fighters started losing to bums and the consistency in the sport just took a huge nosedive. It made it seem like there was no real skill in the sport, just luck of the draw. Started not only to **** me off, but to lose appeal.

Because of that reason, and because of the many more dimensions, it's a much more difficult sport to call matchups in than boxing. Guys like Anderson Silva and GSP are still brilliant though, and consistent, barring that fluke loss to Serra that GSP will soon be avenging.

Penn, at his best, is brilliant, especially on the ground. Really a master grappler.

that was my first thought. :good

what seperates boxing from other 1 vs. 1 sports is the science and incredible talent that some pure boxers display such as Mayweather, Whitaker, Toney and Juan Marquez.

on the other hand, we still have pure fighters like Pacquiao, Vasquez and Juan Diaz who bring completely different styles and yet still rate among the best.

The commitment to the sport. The fact that it is the toughest sport played on earth, and requires extreme mental and physical strength. The way it is extremely technical and scientific, yet at the same time is so diverse in the techniques that are used and how they are applied. The global aspect of it, and the way that different fighters bring their own unique personalities and fighting styles into the ring. The fact that it is one on one, and you get to see the VERY BEST in the world against one another ONE ON ONE, not relying heavily on teamates. The fast paced nature of it and the passion, intensity and excitement that it generates is unbelievable. The way that victory can come in so many different ways, whether it be through a brutal come from behind knockout, or a masterful boxing clinic. Boxing is hands down the best sport in the entire world. Its not even comparable for me.
