What makes Bradley, Alexander & Berto "slicker" than someone like Pac victim M.Cotto?

Is it purely their skin colour? (it can't be, because we all remember Jeff "Crude Oil" Lacy in the ring)

Because I really don't see what is so "slick" about these fighters.

To me, a slick fighter is someone who smoothly goes from defence to offence, a quick and clever mover who fights with rhythm and poise.

Floyd Mayweather is a slick fighter. Even Zab Judah was pretty slick at times.

Bradley, Alexander and Berto are about as slick as Iran Barkley.

Bradley is a good fighter, but he relies much more on intensity than he does on any slickness.

Alexander just has far too many holes in his game to be considered slick. His punching is not accurate, his defence is weak.

And Berto has great handspeed, but his lumbering footwork is not great, and he doesn't have any real slickness to any parts of his game.

Can someone explain to me how these guys are considered more "slick" than a guy like Miguel Cotto?

In numerous fights, Cotto has shown he can seamlessly switch from going forward and throwing offensive combinations to jabbing and boxing off the back foot.

Although he showed some youtube-worthy head movement at points in the Margarito fight, overall his defence is some distance short of being a "slick" defence, but he is still closer to being a slick fighter than any of the above fighters IMO.

The very idea that Pacquiao fears "slick black" fighters looks even more stupid now than ever.

He must have been watching that fight last night thinking: "Surely they can't unleash me on this pair of pretenders."

Pacman outboxed and outfought a 150+lbs Cotto, then he fought off the back foot and picked apart a man 17lbs heavier than him. He would completely embarrass and dismantle the highly unslick Bradley, Alexander and Berto.

i think ivan calderon is slick. Pac is slick. but the slick word is being used with much liberty on fighters with african-american origin. If Cornelius Bundrage had a smart manager, he should have taught him to display some fancy head movement and pretend with a flashy footwork from time to time. that way he could have himself labeled as slick and earn millions of dollars for his HBO license fee

All 3 of those fighters are very different but its not simply a skin colour factor, more speed and ability to use both hands. Bradley has the best defense of all the fighters mentioned and its hard to land cleanly on him for the most part. Berto is just fast but lacking defensively, Alexander fast, but can telegraph but better defensively than Berto and cagier than Cotto.

My opinion of both Bradley and Alexander went down last night, Bradley can be neutralised by taller opponents, against Pacquaio this wouldn't actually be a factor though. Still he can run out of ideas as he did last night. Bradley isn't pure slickness but he does combine a really good all round package

Cotto has always lacked several things from his game, the first being speed as he's just slow, the second defense as he's always been very hittable, and the last his 1 handedness and relying on a left hand is suicide against Pacquaio. I'm not saying all those are necessarily better than Cotto but all 3 are faster and 3 have much better right hands, which is a tool that will work far better than the left

All 3 are interesting fights despite the fact Alexander needs to fight his way back to contention. Bradley has the defense/inside game and speed, Alexander has the southpaw stance/speed, Berto speed/size/power. However I think Khan is probably a tougher fight than lot, which is a shame as both have said it won't happen, Khan should beat Bradley/Alexander comfortably now

Cotto is NOT slow. He is methodical, there is a difference. Steward who was sat ringside himself said Cotto is a fast fighter, before he started training Cotto. Cotto when he unleashes his hands is fast, he's just methodical in his approach giving the impression that he's slow.

agreed, Cotto isn't slow, when he fought mosley, he was fighting him at mosley's phase which isn't slow by any means.

I don't consider Berto slick at all really.

Defensively, Bradley is the slickest of the group, he typically does a good job slipping and picking off punches.

Did Pac beat him up or didn't he? Stating a fact.

I agree. I don't think Cotto is slow either. His handspeed has impressed me before, and his movement (although not Pac/Judah/Floyd/prime Mosley speed at all) is still pretty sharp when it needs to be.
