I disagree Roy Jones Jr. was indeed a great boxer. He might not have been a technelcy perfect boxer but put him into the ring in his prime with any 168 or 175 Lbs boxer and I like his chances.
Good post... Textbook boxing, Roy broke almost all the rules. But how is a boxer not great when you can have the success Roy did? Isn't the game of boxing to hit and not be hit, and dish out as much punishment as you can? Roy did that great, and showcased some amazing talent. Despite the opinion of some critics, against great opposition as well. May not have been classic technique, but he was for sure great at it, for a long time.:yep Making him a great boxer, in my opinion.
My personal Opinion In no order - Heart/Spirit for it - Physical Ability - Experience - Boxing IQ - Good chin

Roy Jones was not a great boxer!!!! He had athletic superiority over everyone he fought. This is the reason he is a shot figter even though he is young. No boxing fundamentals. Bernard Hopkins,Evander Holyfield,Archie Moore and others fought way past accepted cut off dates because they had boxing fundamentals. Roy Jones without athletic superiority is rather inferior. And will be ko'd by anyone or embarrassed by Calzaghe. Roy Jones is THE definition of NOT A GREAT BOXER!!!
I'm going to add another thing. 4. Creativity. This comes from experance as well as athletic ability. The truly great boxers are more than flawless or techenaly perfect. Truly great boxers and athletes from any other sport have a flare to their game that seprates them from the very good.
