Froch can be crude, but he still has better defence than the walking punchbag Margarito. He has a better jab, a smarter approach, and he fights more effectively from range.

It's his ability to string together long combinations of solid shots, usually hooks multiple left-right hooks that hit both the side of the head and the body within about five or six punches (Taylor/Bute). He's most effective when he performs like this, because it usually produces a higher work rate than his opponent (Abraham/Bute). He falls apart when he gets frustrated and starts looking for one shot (Ward) or gets tired (Kessler). Though he's not the fastest, the low left hand stance can mean his jab comes out of nowhere, and of course, his chin is made of concrete. Hope that helps.

Against Bute, what allowed him to be very effective was his stepping forward with his right foot as he threw his right hand, IMO. He's not usually that successfully when doing this, but because Bute held his feet, and him being in the southpaw stance...the right hand either always connected clean, or he came back with the left hook or strong jab/combinations.

The main reason for last nights effectiveness was, Froch was simply better, more determined, more hungry...and the small fact that Bute's resistance is not even close to being up to scratch.

Also noticed some very high hit % in that fight - for both men. The difference was that Froch threw twice as many shots. Very often, they both connected with 50% and above - that's pretty unusual at this leve, I believe.

Yup. . I can't remember how many posters on all the boxing forums I've seen say stuff like "Damn, Froch is growing on me. . . ", or "Man, I used to hate that cocky *****, but now I respect him, and he's one of my favorites."

It's all part, and parcel of true champion's mindset. . .

NOTE: I do think the Kessler fight definitely could have gone either way. . . 115-113 Kessler was fair, but 115-113 Froch would have been fair too. . .

Nah. . Not even close. . . Aside from their chins, grit, stamina, and will to win. . . Maybe they have similar physical attributes, but while Froch lacks that base speed, he makes up for it with timing, and good reflexes. . . Margarito has neither. . . Style-wise they aren't remotely similar. . .

    Ward outboxed Froch.
    Kessler outworked Froch.
Had Froch been busier against Kessler, and followed up his big shots instead of standing back and admiring them,he could have won the fight.

He's just a real solid, sturdy tank... No frills, no thrills.....he's good all around and is deceptively powerful. His timing allows him to land his shots on speedier fighters.

He has a very good chin and can take a punch both to the head and body in order to give his, so you cant go toe to toe with him for a long stretch. He punches very hard. In order to beat him you have to be defensive like Direll or Ward with very good reflexes to avoid his bombs. He also has good workrate and stamina and maintaince his power to the end so you have to be focused at all times.

Bute doesnt have a great defence and made a terrible mistake of going toe to toe with Froch.

he's strong of body and mind, awkwardly slick, and even if his defense betrays him, his chin is extremely durable. there's also some serious punching power in his gloves. he's not feather fisted.
