Golovkin really reminds me a lot of Kostya Tszyu. Same type of technique and same rhythm of advancement and punch placement. Both with well above average strenghth and punching power for their weight class. You add to that tremendous chins. Those types are really impossible beats for B level competition. Its only against bonafide A level fighter that their weaknesses are shown. When Kostya Tszyu faced a real solid boxer with a terrific jab and power in the right hand, he was cut down to size. Vince Phillips with his height, reach, and boxing ability really exposed Tszyu's vulnerabilities to fighters that were at his level. GGG has yet to face a fighter on the level of Vince Phillips, he just hasn't, and when he does, win or lose we're going to see the leaks in Golovkin's defense that will let us know Golovkin is mortal as they all are.
You know, others don't look as good as GGG. In fact, Murray lost through robbery against Martinez after knocking him down and declassing him. He was also robbed against Abraham and Sturm. Unlucky guy. What did GGG do to him? Macklin gave Martinez a good fight as well, GGG destroyed him. Direll went life and death with Rubio, after he was knocked out in two by Golovkin. You guys have absolutely no idea about boxing. :-( Stevens just beat unbeaten Brazil's number one MW. The list goes on. Lemieux is back as well.
Do we watch the same fights? :huh Regarding to compubox, GGG has the third best defense of all active fighters. I mean, it's boxing, people get hit, but you haters pretend he would have no defense at all. You should educate yourself more on boxing.
I disagree. Vince phillips was no boxer, he was not a jab first fighter or anything like that. He actually out-slugged a prime tszyu which is a huge accomplishment, he went toe to toe and beat him at his own game. I don't like the tszyu comparison. Just because they look alike and have similar heritage does not mean they fight alike at all. KT would spring into 1-2 combos and stand very up right. He did not have the up and down movement or ring cutting skills as GGG. He also did not have the right or left hook.
Yes to the above and he is durable , the physicality of the sport demands a lot from your body in training and in the ring . He has learned how to knock guys out . When to punch to the best effect and with what punches to keep his opponent on the defensive , he seldom loses a round and his pressure breaks people down mentally . I've watched his fights on u toob several times , guys like Lemieux , Monroe and Curtis are very dangerous and capable and they did land good punches on Genna just not enough . Some people say he wins easily because of his opposition which is wrong , he works extremely hard and has trained his body and mind to perfect his boxing ability . Another boxer that was said to take a scientific approach was Gene Tunney , he wasn't the biggest or fastest but his boxing IQ was highly developed . Tunney had a very successful boxing career losing only once with a record of 65 - 1 . He retired at age 31 and was unbeaten as a heavyweight.
Tszyu faced a bigger man with a bigger punch in Philips and going toe to toe without regard to intelligent defense inevitably meant he would lose. Golovkin has much better defense than Tszyu and his record proves that.
