What makes people think Cotto is a harder fight for Floyd than HAtton?

Hatton is faster than Cotto, more durable, and has been in the sport longer...(at least im pretty sure he has...) He is also a dirtier fighter, even if not as strong, and i dont think his bodypunching is far off... Cotto showed he can be versatile in working Mosley on the outside, thats cause he felt Mosley and saw he wasnt getting to him like he does most fighters so he got on the back foot to avoid any danger...(Smart choice, not dissing on Cotto there, just saying why i think he really did it..)

Although i do think Cotto could be more skilled than Hatton, maybe more versatile, but we dont really know, Hatton has never had to switch it up..

Talking about all this actually gets me thinking, Hatton - Cotto would be an awesome fight...

I think Cotto has a more sustained attack (this will bother Floyd a lot) than Hatton and at 147lb Hatton seemed undersized. 147lb is Cotto ideal size, he seems stronger in ever conceivable way at this weight. Hatton depends on clinching, Floyd is very good on the ropes avoiding being hit and hitting. Cotto corners his prey very well and is at least as fast as Cotto.

That said I will be mad impressed if Hatton get the win against Floyd.

Good post Matt.....at the moment I can't really pin point why exactly but for some strange reason I feel Cotto has the ability to do what Hatton does though I doubt Hatton can duplicate the boxing Cotto did vs Mosley. In your opinion how would Hatton do against Mosley?

Because, Floyd is fighting Hatton and not Cotto, thats why Cotto is now a more serious threat.

If Floyd was fighting Cotto and Hatton had just beat Mosley.

Hatton would be the more serious threat. Simple as that.

If Hatton did conquer PBF then that would set up a fight with Cotto and yes I agree that would be one hell of a battle. Though imagine Cotto's Jab in Hattons face all night long, it would be a tough task for the mad hatter. At this point if Hatton was to beat PBF and then Cotto (both possible) he would be my new #1 p4p. Though I seriously feel he would be destroyed by the other welters such as "Margo, Kermit and Paul"

Cotto punches much harder. Notice how Cotto's opponents are afraid to pull the triger. Judah known for fast hands was just eating punches and not throwing anything. Mosley known for speed and combination punching was only throwing occasionally single shots, no combinations. On the other hand you could see Collazo taking some Hatton punches to throw his combinations and got stronger as the fight went on. I think Hatton is a bit overrated and Cotto underrated. Hatton will give Floyd a hard fight but will come up short, Cotto will demolish Floyd.

Because so many folks thought Mosley would whoop Mayweather and as you've witnessed Cotto has already edged Shane. That makes it a half reality and half wishful thinking. As Shane and May are not the same but simular is some aspects. Cotto has lived up to his part of the bargin so to speak and Hatton hasn't. Cotto lovers aren't giving Ricky credit because the deed has not been done yet. Ask their opionon if Ricky wins. Bet they band wagon Hatton!

Hatton is more of a swarmer, Cotto is more of a stalker. Cotto works his way inside better than Hatton too, and he uses the jab much more frequently. This allows him to take less punishment coming in than Ricky does. Just look at Hatton's fight at 147 with Collazo and Cotto's fights against Quintana, Judah, and Mosley at 147.

It's more than that - it's their respective styles and how they would match up with Floyd.

Indeed I would give Hatton much props if he beats PBF though I doubt this will happen so I have not prepared my bowl of crow yet. :yep

When is the last time you've seen a really good defensive fighter with speed and a varied offensive attack get demolished in his prime?

I think the swarmer style would be better against Floyd that the stalker style. Because the swarmer has a better chance of taking him out of his rhythm and also roughing him up using "non" boxing skills to get to him.
A stalker style would play in to a stick and move type fight from Floyd. I would rather swarm someone and get mine off than stalk someone with fast hands and feet.

Yeah, there are some big question marks for Hatton with me as well... But damn i'd love to see him beat up Floyd, and have a war with Cotto...

I think Hatton would fight around the same fight Cotto did with Mosley, maybe winning a couple of the later rounds, but losing by 2 rounds, i na competitive fight though, mainly because of his footspeed..

But you will never know, styles make fights of course, but how many times have you seen a fighter turn a complete new style for one fight, or even a couple rounds? (Cotto, Shane too rofl)

Point being, you will never know till they step in the ring.. I dont know if Paul Williams would have such an easy time with Hatton, PW doesnt stay on the outside as much as he should, and Hatton is SO much shorter than PW, he could probably frustrate him real, real bad, same goes for Cintron, but i think Cintron could keep Hatton at bay for longer, and probably win a decision..
