That right there combined with a better resume should be enough to prove that Jones is miles better than Calzaghe in terms of greatness and skill.

I don't care to get into the whole mess of both thier resume's, as most of you guys are covering it quite well. But what I highlighted catches my attention. I have seen several UK posters, usually even Joe fans to the max, say that Joe himself was hardly recognized or given props in the UK until the Lacy fight.

There are only a handful of hardcore Joe supporters on here, I won't mention them, they know who they are, that actually supported Joe well before that fight. Everybody else jumped a hot band wagon, and pretend to have ridden alll the way.

    that's all. :D

And there you go. The 0 is Calzaghes only claim to be on RJJs level. But its not even as impressive as RJJ's 0.

You said it. A prime Toney was short lived so not such a great win. He was losing to Nunn before he got lucky. Fact is RJJ as much as I loved watching this man fight was gifted with skills he did not have to work for which enabled him to out class people. Did he have a plan b when his legs and reflexes went? Other fighters of the same ilk did. He got knocked out real bad twice. End of story. Dream on but you cant argue with an undefeated record. And talking about ATG fighters on records lets look at Hopkins resume. Defeated by who twice after Jones and some bum and a draw with who?

well to be honest not many fighters do in the UK especially welsh boxers, only ricky hatton gets the media attention who took over the hype from the prince, and even joe was mostly booed in hostily English crowds, to be honest with you i never actully cared about joe when i got into boxing, Kostya tszyu got me into it, but i like how you pointed out that many people hop on the bandwagon, but that happens with loads of fighters who get media acclaim not just joe, (e.g. Pavlik, Marquez, Taylor, Hatton just to name a few of the many)

If you check out Alexa 43% of people who visit this site are from the States,Calzaghe beat up a few very popular and highly regarded American fighters so I wouldn't worry too much about the concensus on here with regards Joe Calzaghes resume or lack thereof.

Of course it makes sense. As far as RJJ is concerned I must admit to be getting quite bored with the multi weight ****. Just because a boxer can move up and down weight and win titles does not automaticaly make him better. Who cares about the first middle weight to win a heavy weight title in how many years load of bollocks fight the best and be judged accordingly fight for a ego trip against a ****ing idiot **** boxer in John Ruizzzzzzzzz there we go

Yea the Toney fight means nothing. Starting out as a Jr Middle and wining a title against a TOP 10 heavy fighter who outweighed you by 30lbs and is stronger than you means nothing. Likewise all the other titles won where he beat TOP 10 guys who have went on to only get better afterwards.

Enough of my sarcasm, but seriously, this is getting ridiculous. But you live in Wales, so nothing more one could expect

Jones kept alot of good fighters from being champion during his LHW reign and he was one of only a few fighters that won a light heavyweight championship and won a HW championship.

I think that above all makes him a cut above alot of fighters during his era and challenges some credentials of the "old timers"

Jones wouldve never beat Calzaghe during his career - it just doesn't seem like he couldve, Calzaghe wouldve been too explosive for Jones at any time - the same goes for Hopkins.

Hopkins had trouble against explosive fighters ... his losses against Jones, Taylor, and Calzaghe proves that ... even Jones said it himself about Hopkins -- Hopkins can't handle fast guys ...

Jones on the other hand had too many defensive struggles ... he was never a defensive mastermind ... he usually just overwhelmed his opponents with speed, agility, and athleticism. When he met a fighter that match either his intensity or his athleticism ... he loss to them. I don't think Jones ever invisioned fighter a fighter that was capable of matching his natural physical attributes -- Tarver was stronger, long, awkward, and a pressure style boxers - with power in his left hand. Johnson was a strong willed fighter with a good beard and talent for making boxers feel uncomfortable. Calzaghe was a windmill who never stopped throwing punches and never let his opponents get into rhythm.

Aside from all that - the fact that Jones started at middleweight and won a HW title puts him leagues above Calzaghe.
