Calzaghe in my mind beat the best and fought the best when they came up. Roy did not. Roy wanted a safety first career.

Agility IS a attribute of defense. And Roy Jones High Guard defense is extremely underrated I feel. The fact is he did not need to implement it much because of his reflexes, his quick reflexes was his defense. Would you say Ali had no defense?

You seem to not know the difference between a prime jones and a shot one. Jones did not have problems with pressure! He has never had problems with Pressure in his prime. Guess tried that and failed in his prime.

Lol One of Joe Calzaghe's best victories being Lacy, is a lesser fighter than nearly all the guys he fought at LHW.

Lets end this. Joe Calzaghe beat Jones and Hopkins when they all were old according to us. Calzaghe deserves massive respect but wont get it. Hey America you take all the plaudits

Exactly, most guys are in their prime at 44, its not old at all. Some guys like Jones are obviously at their best at 40.

:patsch I guess 43 is better than 28 by your logic, I've been watching Bhops since 99 and the man Calslappy beat is just about shot, Hopkins used to have a 75 % KO to win ratio, as he would just break fighters down with costant pressure, this version of BHops KOs NOBODY, he is slower and fights and spurts, he may not have been peak when he fought Jones but he was much better than he got to Slappy.

BTW only a nutthugger would argue that Slappy beat Hopkins more convinceingly. Jones beat Hopkins with 1 hand and NOBODY not even Hopkins will dispute that win by clear wide UD 8-4, While Slappy did nothing but get put on his ass and slap his way to a close contravertial decision.

 This is classic stuff here, Slappy who hid in Wales behind a lightly regarded, unrecognised WBOGUS title fought better comp than a guy who unified all the titles at 175 and cleared out the division, Slappy sack swinggers are always good for a luagh or 2.

Honestly this is the biggest crock of garbage iv read in a long long time. Every ounce of it is so woefully backward i dont even know where to start or if even to bother. I mean have you actually even seen ANY of Jones fights in his prime?! Struggled defensively? Against whom exactly? Tell you what between 2003 and Jones turning pro you tell me exactly whom he struggled with defensively.

It's obvious Jones beat Hop more convincingly, i agree.

But the version Calzaghe fought was far better fighter than the one Jones did.

Saying Hop is "just about shot" is just as ridiculous as saying Calzaghe beat him more convincingly than Roy.

And if being younger is key, i assume you think the Hop that lost to Mitchell is superior to both versions Roy and Calzaghe beat.

What did you see leading up to the Jones fight, and after it(Mercado), that leads you to believe that version is better than the one who destroyed Pavlik?

More garbage. Its pretty clear you havent seen any Hopkins fights back in the 90`s but instead prefer to surf boxrec. The man would stay on his opponents chest and maul the life out his opponent for 12 rounds. Hopkins is past his prime thats a FACT. Only a dimwit would use feeble logic on the basis of his peformance against Pavlik that he is not. Styles make fights. Hence why Hopkins looked awful against a guy like Mercado who had him badly hurt and knocked down. Hopkins said that Mercado was one of the hardest fights he ever had. Mercado went on to achieve little in this sport.

Oh just stfu. You know Hopkins was 28 when he fought Jones? Have you ever seen Hopkins when he was 28? But yeh the 44 year old bhop backing up and circling a little against Calzaghe, damn, that sort of brilliance was impossible for an absolutely physically prime Hopkins :patsch
