I listened to this interview with Leonard Ellerbe on Sway / Tech and the mourning show and several callers bought up Thurman as an opponent for Floyd but I'm just curious what makes Thurman deserving of a fight. I'm not even talking about his name from a marketing perspective but who has he beat that gives people the opinion that he would be a major threat against floyd.

It's not like he's impressively beaten any opponents that we know are good. They're bringing him a long at a good pace. I like him but I don't see what the demand about a mayweather vs Thurman match up is. Maidana is far more deserving with a close fight (probably won) with khan, beating a soon to be P4P Broner, even Maidana beating josesito is a bigger win than anyone on Thurman resume thus far if you ask me..... whats your opinion?

Its crazy to me people bring up Thurmans name as a threat an call Alvarez a cherry pick when Alvarez is better and has a better record only area I would give Thurman a major advantage is stamina Alvarez is faster than giving credit for and is definitely stronger and a very good boxer as well people are under this illusion that Thurman is this big WW when he was listed at 5'7 for the Karass bout.

I think he has potential he needs to step it up this year all his contemporaries around his age stepped it up last year with verious results I.e. Garcia-Matthysse, Porter-Alexander, Broner-Maidana, Alvarez-Trout/Mayweather, Rigo-Donaire ect...for the hype surrounding guys like Thurman & Golovkin ducking or not they haven't done much plenty of top fighters have been ducked and still managed to fight Champs.

Its still early so he has a lot of time but his next fight needs to ve someone that counts Thurman is an Interim Champ, Maidana is the real WBA Champ just saying.

He simply isn't deserving of a Mayweather fight. People who bring his name up are ******ed.

I think he can put himself in the running though

He doesn't deserve a shot. But i think he poses one of the more interesting style matchups with Mayweather.

Keith's not there yet, both from a resume and a development standpoint.

It'd be shrewd matchmaking of Floyd to target him now and be the one to take his unbeaten record while he's not at his peak, just like with Alvarez. And before anyone makes it seem like I'm rewriting history, that was my stance on why Floyd fought Canelo before he was officially named the opponent.

Mayweather's a great fighter and a calculating matchmaker.

He doesn't deserve a shot and he has no shot at defeating Floyd but considering he is young undefeated hungry lion he fits the category of fighters Floyd fights and Floyd will hype him as VERY DANGEROUS :dead

Carlos Quintana - past his best (having been stopped by Cotto, Williams and Berto) but Thurman did what was needed and stop him early and retiring him

Jan Zaveck - stopped unfairly in the Berto fight, former IBF champion and goes the distance so a good opponent, good step up

Diego Gabriel Chaves - His first fight on US soil, undefeated but untested but obviously a good talent and was put down by Thurman in the 10th . . . . again good step up

Jesus Soto Karass - His biggest win to date but showed some flaws and was hurt but Karass has always been a top contender despite losing (only twice before by KO to Maidana and Rosado) and Thurman finished the show impressively.

On Merit id like Thurman to fight Mayweather but hes not quite there yet and its not his fault. The IBF got tied up with Paulie/Porter and Kell Brooks got first dibs on that, Maidana is fighting Mayweather in a unification so hes out, Bradley is with TR and fighting Pacquiao then possibly Alvarado/Prov/Rios/Marquez/Pac again after for the WBO . . . . .

Hes not ducking anyone, more the others are avoiding him as he has nothing to offer them besides a loss so he needs to keep stepping up in opposition and sadly Julio isnt stepping up from Karass, more so staying where he is because as of right now Brook/Khan have wins that equal or excell Thurmans best wins.

Randall Bailey is coming off a win all be it by DQ since his lackluster loss to Alexander and Devon is just coming off that loss to Porter by upset as well as Guerrero to Mayweather along with Khan after his fight with Collazo. These are the kinds GB should be pushing but for some reason are not which is amazing when you got a guy with that much potential

I agree,Thurman has done nothing yet to deserve this shot. Hell just give it to Khan next.

He doesn't deserve one yet and isn't ready, but he could be in the future.

If he picks up the title from Paulie or Porter and then defends against Khan, Maidana, or Broner, he'd be just as deserving as anyone else aside from the Pac/Bradley winner. Not like anyone is really ready for Floyd, but I think a title and a solid defense or two puts him at the top of the list.

Actually I think Danny Garcia vs Thurman would be a heck of a matchup in terms of styles and positioning for a Floyd fight. Can definitely see this in the near future.

The thing is though, everyone was calling for him to fight Alvarez. He was 36 himself and there was no other viable option for that date.

They see a puncher and want to see floyd ko'd.. that's all it is. Having said that i do rate thurman and believe with some big wins could earn a fight in 2015 and it'd be a big sell. He needs those big fights and it just doesn't seem like anyones willing to give him a shot yet, at a title or at one of the bigger names.

It definitely made sense (and plenty of cents!). Trust me, I don't hold the Alvarez fight against Floyd by any stretch. Even if Canelo wasn't peaked and was overrated by being on P4P lists, he was still a big, tough, and talented young fighter. Despite my belief that it's no accident Floyd fought him at the perfect time, Mayweather gets his due credit from me there. :good

Thurman isnt ready for Floyd yet but his speed and power shows he could beat alot of top WW's

He could definitely fight Floyd by next September if he beats some big names
