What means more becoming lineal champ or undisputed

It’s about the same for me both undisputed and lineal say you are the clear cut man at a weight class

 

There were, but Tyson's fight against Tony Tucker was billed as "The Ultimate" Heavyweight Championship with Sports Illustrated calling Tyson the Undisputed Heavyweight Champ after his win to unify all the belts. I guess some people didn't like that Spinks ducked Tucker. And let's be honest, Tyson v Tucker was the "real" undisputed fight, Tyson v Spinks just ended up being a formality.

Regarding other situations, some will argue this happened before with Joe Frazier, too. He was undisputed in 1970 when he beat Ellis, then he beat Ali (for Lineal) in '71.

Also slightly different, but Big George after becoming Lineal against Moorer, was first stripped by the WBA, and then he relinquished the IBF. When Shannon Briggs beat him there weren't any belts on the line. Though the lineal would end up in the hands of Lewis (WBC) before he became undisputed.

Now we have Fury with his disputed status as Lineal champion. Basically, the marquee division being a bit of a **** show is nothing new

 

Oh true Frazier is another incident. If AJ and wilder fought after fury returned but before he fought wilder 2nd time then that person would have been 4 belt unified while not being lineal and you know that fury would have "disputed" who the champ was hahaha.

I wonder if this have ever happened in any of the other weight classes?

 

Can't define for certain, because it depends on how one becomes undisputed and/or lineal.

Beating the best guys is a greater legacy. But if you are undisputed, you must have faced the best guys anyway, although it's not 100% guaranteed.

Anyway, the lineal is a matter of consensus, I don't like the concept and can also question the undisputed right because it's not always that you fought the best guys to win a belt.

I am always saying that the greatest legacy is the quality of your opponents, not titles or anything.

 

Being called a proper fighter by Tyson Fury is the ultimate prize in boxing.

 

Undisputed of course, certainly when you're the one getting the belts together. Lineal you can basically win by accident or corruption and it's easy to hold hostage as we've seen multiple times in recent history.

 

I feel that undisputed is a greater accomplishment. In the modern day undisputed usually implies multiple top wins while the lineal championship is based on one victory.

Someone said that the people you beat is what matters in terms of determining your legacy as a fighter, but I still feel we can say one achievement is better than the other. Almost no fighter on Earth would rather be lineal than undisputed, I'm sure.

 

I’d say that because of such a small opportunity to fight the Lineal champion it’s Lineal. As for Undisputed as long as you’ve got time on your side especially at that weight you’ve got several opportunities to Unify. And there lies the problem. I’ve just said it Unified. Unified/Undisputed/Lineal. I’d go for a lineal title. At least it can’t be taken from you.
