I think that if the middleweight title had been split like it is today, then there is a good chance that Harry Greb and Mickey Walker would have both held a version of it at some point.

Sam Langford actualy held the coloured heavyweight title.

That wasnt exactly an accurate weight. The Robson fight was supposed to be a catchweights match with no weight limit. When Greb arrived the local officials demanded Greb weigh in to which he refused and walked out. The officials tracked him down at lunch just after Greb had eaten full meal including steak and demanded he weigh in. Once he was assured that the fight was still a catchweights match and that there would be no weight forfeit he promptly walked over to the offices and hopped on the scales in full dress (remember it was january and those old clothes, particularly winter clothes, where HEAVY). Its likely that given the meal and the clothing Greb actually weighed a good ten pounds less which would have been about standard for him and which was what he and Red Mason estimated his true weight to be.

:patsch Yeah no way Fitz could win a world title. He only did it once. Well actually twice if you include non universally recognised World titles (Peter Maher and Jim Corbett). But maybe those fightes didnt exist.

Charley Burley and Sam Langford. I'd rather consider Patterson , Ellis and Byrd as supermiddleweights although I may be wrong in this and they were in fact middleweights.

Don't get me wrong , in the above I only meant a paper belt. No MW/SMW except of Chris Byrd had a chance against the Klitschkos and we do know how his 2 encounters with the lesser Klitscko went .
