What month or year did the WBO receive true world recognition?

It wasn't long ago when you needed only the WBC, WBA, and IBF to be undisputed. Now the WBO has entered the fray.

I think it was the Hopkins-DLH fight that made the WBO a "legit" title. Because guys who held it in the past like Morrison and Damiani were anything but recognized champs.

To many fans, the WBO and even the IBF are not true organizations.

I think the WBO championship will gain a little more prestige depending on who holds it. If Klitschko wins in Feb., it might lend a little more prestige to the HW portion of it.

Ray Mercer held and defended the belt for a period during the 1990s - that was probably the first time they had a credible champion defending their belt for longer than 1 or 2 defences.

Well I for one don't count it as a proper world championship just as I don't count the WBU or IBO.

I think it was probably around the mid 90s when fighters like Hamed, and Chirs Eubanks held the title, that it started giving the WBO some recognition and credibility.

    :good

And lump the old USBA in there too. Those are last chance belts for old guys (like Oliver McCall, Holyfield, Tommy Hearns, etc.) or stepping stone titles for up and coming contenders (like Berto, Khan, etc.)

When Lamon Brewster won the WBO title, it was like all of a sudden, people cared. ...and have ever since.

ALL of these corrupt sanctioning bodies are EQUALLY illegitimate. They are a cancer on the sport. The sooner they ALL fold up shop, the better the sport will be.

Max Kellerman said he would never recognize the WBO title as long as a Klitschko had the title.

    I don't feel they have & I don't think it's important that they do.
