Someone said in a thread that tyson shouldnt be accused of steroids, im a big tyson fan but yeah him and 99% of pro athletes have been doing and taking whatever they could to get the edge in competition ever since sports paid money. Think what the alternative would be for a young "ghetto" kid if he didnt make it in sports. Some of these kids would be taking their aggression out on the world, hurting people. Committing violent crime. Living in poverty, unable to provide for their families. Being a burden to their loved ones and on society in general. taking some PED's under the supervision of a doctor is nothing compared to what some of these kids would be doing if they werent fighters. Very few will take the holier than thou high ground and of those that do another 90% are being given things by their teams that they think are "vitamins" or "suppements" because guess what? each member of the team is financially dependent on the performance of the athlete. What about the rest? Well they're very far from the top and no one ever hears from them because they didn't do whatever it takes and someone else did and made a name for themselves. But Contro! My favorite boxer/athlete WOULD NEVER! HE's not like that!! How would you know? Contro doping isnt fair, so and so is a cheat!! If you've never been pisss poor SHUT THE **** UP!! If you have been impoverished, did you ever have a chance at becoming rich and providing for your entire family if you just did what most of your competition did anyway? Hard work doesnt cut it if the other guy is more gifted than you, you're doing the best you can but the talented guy is still doing the earning and you got bills to pay so you take PED's now guess what? the talented guy is now n the other guy's shoes!!
Bottom line is if there's no proof it's not worth talking about. One could easily speculate Babe Ruth was on amphetamines for his entire baseball career but it is just unfair and somewhat depressing to do so without any tangible evidence
I dont think its worth talking about either, unless some fan points the finger at a fighter for it, especially if he hadnt failed a test(which only really means you mistimed your dose or your supplier screwed you over by giving you something else that has similar effects but is cheaper and the clearance window you assumed for the drug you were taking no longer applies and you pop for something you didnt even want to be on) Its best to assume there is a level playing field unless its like a size difference, the opponent was somehow compromised(as in he had a concussion before the fight was drained or drugged) or the gloves or handwraps were tampered with
Just one problem with that. What about the honest athletes who get through, or don't quite get through? Any form of cheating has a victim. You could argue that the man, who took the bus to win the Kielder Marathon, did it because he was under pressure to succeed. Everybody is under the same pressures!
Im not saying that its fine and dandy that they're doing it. But its the reality of the sport and those honest athletes will just have to make a choice, and live with the consequences of that choice. Being a competitive person and having moths to feed and dreams to fulfill makes that choice a lot easier for many.
So the honest guys work their a55 off to get close to the top, while the dishonest people take an easy shortcut, but we still have to be understanding towards the dishonest people who take this short cut? They are basically taking the bus to win the marathon. In the running comunity, calling somebody a cheat, is marginaly better than calling them a peadophile!
Easy shortcut? they all work hard. there is no shortcut to the top! the number one limiting factor in sports is talent! PED's actually help you work harder because they let you recover faster, train harder without getting hurt
Then let me introduce you to the frustration of the honest athlete. The have a lot of fire in their belly, and the factor that constantly limits them, is that they can only train so hard without their body breaking! If they get injured, then they are living in a cauldron of frustration. Meanwhile, another guy just pops the pill!
I get your point my friend but right now there isnt anything you can do about it. I used to box myself and was a competitive powerlifter before boxing in high school and even though i dont do either seriously anymore i know what goes on. steroid esthers with detection times you that measure in hours not days, undetectable peptides, take hgh before bed and you'll be fine by noon and all kinds of new drugs that wont even be tested for for another 2 years. Did you know the olympic doping committee used a new testing procedure on some old **** samples from either 08 or 2012 i dont remember, but the new test was just for ONE SINGLE DRUG and they got over 300 new positive urine samples that came up clean under the testing at the time
There is dark side for young sports people to produce results with tragic consequences. http://www.si.com/more-sports/2015/06/18/special-report-painkillers-young-athletes-heroin-addicts
Supplements and PEDs are two different things.. one of them is illegal while the other can be purchased in he form of a shake or sports drink at a local store.. and you can't paint everyone with the same brush.
Yes, and that all suggests that the guys who are winning are also some of those who are taking the drugs. I don't think honesty has got much to do with professional boxing. Since when is "the honest athlete" in any way the same as the champion boxer or the good professional ? Nevermind PEDs, knowledgeable fans like us can see most of the "better" fighters using all sorts of dubious tactics to get an edge in almost every fight. It's the elite professionals and the athletes with the ruthless winner's mentality that bend and break the rules the best. The 100% "honest" "clean" athlete is probably an amateur, and I don't doubt the fire in there bellies, I've competed in sport myself but I think the upper echelons of professional sport, (often esp. in boxing), are probably inhabited by a special breed that is often outright psychopathic. And I don't mean that in a negative way. Just realistic. Not only that, the elite professionals in boxing are often given every edge and advantage by the matchmaking system for the economic benefit of the sport. Fairness isn't the general order of the day, and if there is any moral problem with PED use, I think it's mild compared to the obvious unfairness that confronts everyone in boxing all the time.
It doesn't matter, a guy taking legal supplements will still have an advantage over someone that doesn't.
