I know we have all made our picks as to who is going to win and WHY we think that fighter will win.
Can any of you who is so confident in your prediction please explain what game plan must be used for your fighter to win. I dont mean short changing it either give a detailed realistic fight plan for either Cotto or Margarito to win the fight.
What tactics must be used in the fight, leave resumes out of the thread, leave hate out of the thread, lets be logical here, lets use some common sense and good boxing knowledge.

Cott has to BOX!.... I hear people saying he has to Bang with Marg, but you don't BANG with a BANGER!. And Marg is in his own world when he is able to throwdown. Cotto will have to use his improved footwork, pop the jab and counter off angles.

Of course Cotto can't stay on his toes moving for 12 rounds....bc Marg will switch things up to cut him off. Cotto will have to "FIGHT" Marg eventually but Cotto will have to be smart and "choose" when he fights vs when he boxes. To keep Marg guessing and off balance that will be a great way to keep Marg guessing what is to come next from Cotto.

If Cotto chooses to bang with Marg it will be a short night. Maybe not an early KO but a late round TKO for sure.

Marg on the other hand has got to START EARLY!!!! He has to impose his will and fight his fight. Take away Cotto's Jab by smothering him with his "tornado" style. Get to the body early and take away some early wind in Cotto's sails. Impliment the Uppercut on the inside and stay on Cotto when he is trying to move. Man this is gonna be a good one.

Well, while i don't consider myself an expert on boxing or analyzing fights i can give you my humble opinion.

I personally see Cotto outfighting Margarito using his versatility. I see him trying to establish his jab in the beginning and countering Margarito's aggression effectively with body punches and uppercuts. I also think Cotto will try to give Margo different looks by moving/using angles and being aggressive in the same round, using looping punches to get through Margo's peek a boo defense. Of course it's a lot easier said than done which is why i definitely do not envision a knock out in Cotto's favor (unless it's a stoppage on cuts or swelling) and i see it as a very competitive fight with both fighters having success, but Cotto having that much more which will grant him the victory.

I agree Cotto must pick his spots when it comes to boxing and fighting, he is going to have to fight Tony somewhere in the fight, so I think he must do this in spots.
if I am Cotto my plan would be to try and slow the fight down, keep turning Tony, and jab my way to the inside, run of a set of shots and turn him run off some more , turn him again and slide back out before Tony resets his feet.
Also I would take note, The majority of Tonys losses are at the hands of southpaws, Cotto can fight southpaw, it would be a good idea to mix that in the game plan to, Keep Tony thinking. if he does this he can break Tony down and stop him late, but likely it will be a UD for Cotto with this fight plan.

For Margarito to win, he just has to be Tony, start early push miguel back smoother his shots on the inside use that size advantage he does have, and work the ladder, start low and finish high, avoid looking for the one shot Bomb that will never happen just stay fuild, formless like water as Brewster would say, if Tony does this and starts early he will pound Cotto and stop him in the mid to late rounds.
However a Decision is always possible for Tony some people are counting that factor out, I can see Cotto being dropped in this fight the question for Tony is does he finish the man when he does drop him? his track record proves that he is a great finisher.
So is Miguel on the other hand, what are the odds of a Draw here? and do you smell a trilogy? I do

I just have this feeling because Margarito is perceived as a big threat to Cotto, Cotto will come out on top at no cost because of his previous tests in Judah and Mosley. While they are totally different fighters, Margarito has allowed doubters to rise up and say Cotto cannot win against his style. Margarito will be a stiff challenger to Cotto, but I think Cotto will match his opponent's hunger and tenacity with his own because he still has something to prove and attain: that he is the best welterweight in the world with his eyes on becoming the undisputed welterweight champion.

Cotto has to get inside and work there. He cannot run from Margarito and retreat to the ropes like he did against Mosley. He will need to be inside because unlike Mosley, unlike Judah, Margarito has the arm length and workrate to trouble Cotto from the outside. Cotto in my eyes fought the wrong fight against Mosley to begin with. He respected him too much. Had he attacked Mosley and forced his way inside it might have been a much more decisive win. That said, it shows that when Cotto boxes he becomes an easier opponent. That an old Shane Mosley could garner such acclaim from the fight says more about Cotto than it does about Mosley.

Margarito has to keep Cotto on the end of his punches, where Cotto would have to reach to land. He has to do what he did against Lujan only he has to start faster. He has to sit down on his punches instead of throwing and trying to move like he did in rounds 1-4 against Lujan. Once he sat down on his punches and started to hit Lujan with respectable power Lujan backed off and it became all Margarito. Cotto is smaller but he is not a weak 147. He has some strength. So it'll be up to Margarito to keep him on the outside. Make him reach and make him pay.

Wow only three of you were able to take an actual look at the fighters what they bring and present a good fight plan, I assume this has alot to do with the lack of actual hands on knowledge of the sport that is flooded by the posters here, most that have posted short stupid replys here obviously are picking the fight based on a hunch.

Keys to Victory - Antonio Margarito:

    - Keep your distance and don't lunge, use combos finishing with well-placed body shots ( mouth of the stomach and liver)
    - Don't square up, cut the ring off
    - Land the right hand - left hooks provide space for the following right

Keys to Victory - Miguel Cotto:

    - No "Home run ball"
    - Use the stiff and authoritative left jab as defensive weapon on the move ( southpaw jab 2) and right counters and left counters from conventional and southpaw stances
    - Double the left hook - body-head
