Dillian was an overachiever and promoted well. The fact that he thought he was the A-side v Fury always got me, doing no media for the Fury fight & getting popped for the third time was the final nail in his career
I think he really let himself down with how he handled himself in they Fury build up. Everyone wanted to see a Gloves are Off, and we didn't get it (Dillian's biggest offering to the event). Never the A-side and I still can't get over Frank old man-ing that pettifogger Benz on Talksport. Showed the delusion and incompetence of Team Whyte But we need to give the drug test treatment to everyone. I'll never understand how Fury tested positive after the Hammer fight, and was allowed to fight Klitschko before consequence. How was it not pulled up until after the fight?
I enjoyed Dillian throughout his career, he did very well for the amount of talent he had and imo he over achieved as a fighter. I do think that in his last few fights he really is showing signs he is very much on the decline and hope he doesn't continue for too much longer, its not like he has a great defence and isn't easy to hit so every fight will mean he takes full blooded punches.
If Miller can come back after popping for a whole pharmacies worth of drugs, then Whyte can come back too most likely. It wouldn't surprise me if he ends up on the next Saudi HW card.
I believe he will end up on one of them, he still has a decent name and will be used to try showcase another heavyweight they may be trying to build or manoeuvre into a title shot.
Whyte was probably one of the biggest beneficiaries of the Sky/Matchroom era. He reinvented himself well after the AJ defeat where he’d played villain throughout. Had a few decent wins, probably did over 1m PPV buys as the headliner and sold the O2 out a few times. Good work. Should be banned for life now though.
Thick end of 2 million if you include the Joshua fight, the rest you could argue he was the A side. Fair play to him but I trust he's gone this time.
Whyte vs Rivas did just shy of 300k PPV buys - really is unbelievable. Also cleared 500k in both the Parker and Delboy rematch PPVs . British boxing really was riding a high wave of interest from the casual fan. Be interesting to see how many buys Day of Reckoning did.
Did Whyte really think he was the A side versus Fury??? I don’t ever recall seeing or hearing anything about that.
He did, he mentioned it in interviews and conversations on Sky, also Dean Whyte mentioned it in interviews too.
