I never understood the hype about gavin, has no power, seems lazy at times, not a chance he will be a world level fighter,I like the guy and hope he does well but I just cant see it happening..
Wouldn't judge Gavin on this fight tonight, he was fighting a clown that makes anybody look foolish. Witter thought he was in a circus tonight, plus he looked the part with died hair. I've seen better fights up town. Witter would be better suited in strictly come dancing, some of that "fighting" was laughable tonight. If I was coach, I'd have pulled him out on morals, for just taking the **** and insulting the sport of boxing. And I used to be a big Witter fan.
Frankie was never going to look good against Witter. I'd like to see him fight someone who comes forward like Heffron then we can truly judge weather he has the power to take him to the top.
craney we aren't judging him just tonight. Even against lomax his lack of power was very evident and that was probably his best performance. We've had Mutley and also woodhouse where he has been found wanting. Yeas we all know about his problems but 2013 is really gonna be make or break. For me the lack of power is going to be a major issue.
Moving up to welter was a big mistake IMO. I can see moving to 140 because people do grow from their amateur days. But 147 still looks slack and his body doesn't look like a man dying to make 147. Unfortunately in this day and age if you're small at the weight its an issue, more often than not. This is even more the case for Gavin because of two huge factors, his lack of natural power which is even worse at 147 and his reliance on speed and reflexes, he can't afford to be sluggish as he appears at this weight. I did like the fact Gavin stepped through the gears (somewhat) as this went on, and didn't allow it to become a complete Mutley. Witter helped by not punching, mind. All in all a forgettable nights boxing and not one I'm too concerned about for Gavin, but I have been and still am concerned about his prospects at 147.
He just look like he is coasting at 147. An in shape Frankie at 140, which wouldn't be draining it would just be 'in shape', would be my best bet.
Hes got talent, but IMO if he doesnt want to be remembered as our only world championship winner(brilliant as that is)hes got to get a move on now.Witter was a step up,keep up that momentum and go for the european title,or the winner of Purdy/Jones,if it comes off.
