He doesn't have a leaky defense. His defense and reflexes are amazing. He only gets hit as much as he wants to get hit. In examples like the Barrios fight he would sometimes ignore defense and brawl just to act tough, he could have easily fought a smarter fight if he chose to. His footspeed/handspeed is beyond "quick", it's lightning fast. How is his balance sloppy? He can fight very effectively from any position, going forward or backward. Maybe you look at it as sloppy because he makes some insane moves sometimes, mostly to showboat. His ring smarts are average? Alright..

Guzman is sweet science at its best AND most entertaining.

your opinion is that he choses forgoe his defence to act tough, but someone else might say that he is not mentally strong enough to stick to his gameplan. What I was saying is that his defence is good exept that he often becomes a brawler, and then his defence is leaky. (ref. "at times")

If someone downplays one of his advantages "just to act tough" then in terms of ring smarts that is a negative.

Yes his footspeed/handspeed is lightning fast which is basically what i was saying when i said quick. Its very quick. His balance is NOT that good from what I've seen.

I'm not making this **** up cause I'm a hater. I'm actually a decent fan of Guzman and I've seen 3 of his fights (Oliva, Barrios, Soto) so I've seen his progression and have a decent knowledge of him.

people on esb think there are 2 categories of people either nuthuggers or haters but seriously when it comes to Guzman (and everyone except maybe Hopkins) i am neither.

If he wins, he shouldn't be questioned whoever he fights. We've seen that he'll take on anybody if the terms are right.

imo Pacquiao will always be heavily criticized because his pinoy fans are so extreme.

I understand that you're not a "hater", but when you say things like his ring intelligence is average (average would be someone like Margarito), then it's hard not to think you're underrating him a lot as an overall fighter.

Yes, you can argue that his defense is leaky because people could take advantage of him going off his gameplan sometimes to act tough. But the fact is, he has elite level defense/reflexes and it's extremely hard to hit him, as you probably saw when he fought Soto, a very solid boxer. With Floyd Sr. he's also become a more mentally disciplined fighter who focuses on gameplans better that he used to. And his defense "sometimes" being leaky isn't a huge problem in the first place, since he has a proven iron chin. :rasta

Can you explain why you think his balance is "average" and "not that good"?

I find that sometimes when he pulls back and sees an opening he overreaches trying to land the punch and loses his footing a little.

Guzman reminds me of Sharmba Mitchell in alot of aspects.

That's enough to classify his footwork as average?

Nevermind, I'm just getting on your ass with every comment now. :D I think you recognize most of Guzman's talent. What do you think about Guzman-Pac?

Pacquiao has an underrated Jab that would trouble Guzman and is a southpaw, which works well against that style of defence. I think Guzman inevitably will get excited when he lands a couple of nice counterpunches on pac and pac keeps coming. Guzman will square up and eat a couple of left hands down the pipe. He won't get Ko'd cause he is huge but he will lose the fight

For every 1 time that happens, Pac will be gettting countered 5 times.

You don't think Pac's below-average footwork will be a huge problem for him? He's always WAY out of position and open when he misses. Guzman will easily counter him over and over and over again. Yes, he will get mixed up in brawls at times with Pac, but he has faster hands and is a better inside fighter with better reflexes, so he won't be losing when he's fighting Manny's fight. The only way I could possibly see Guzman losing is if he makes the entire fight (or majority of it) a toe-to-toe brawl and Pac outworks him since he has the much better stamina.. which won't be happening, especially now with Floyd Sr. in his corner.

I agree with everything you said except for the valero part... he is just a waste of time for pac. Pac should face the winner of soto-diaz before taking on the baby bull.

Guzman fans are claiming he is the NEXT WORTHY OPPONENT
same as VALERO. Valero and his fans claim he is the NEXT WORTHY OPPONENT!

I think it LOGICAL that both of them should fight first and who ever wins deserves a fight with pac. :hey

    Who are the Valero fans?

    Who are the Guzman fans?

To be honest with you, I don't even think they have too many fans here. I have heard opinions about who could win if they fought .... but that's about it.
