I was not that impressed to be honest, i think he was wide open for the left hook and took a good few flush right hands as well. If he were fighting somebody who punched harder than lindsay he would have been in a spot of bother. If he hopes to continue up the rankings fighting like this he had better have a very good chin. Then again his lack of respect for lindsays power may have played a role. lets see.
I'm surprised everyone is impressed by his performance last night. He put some shots together well but he got hit a LOT and for someone who is supposed to be a fearsome puncher, Lindsay took everything he had and didn't really look like getting stopped. Granted Lindsay has not been stopped in his career and is very durable but eating flush shots as he did, suggests Selby is perhaps not the mini Tyson that some on here seem to think he is. When he went to work he did string some nice combinations together and I like the way he went to the body, but if he is that easy to hit at the higher level he will get a pasting.
Done everything he had to at domestic level so he should look to take on Miskirtchian ASAP after his win last night vs Evensen. I can see him having success at that level certainly and I imagine he'll get a title shot along the line but I don't see him winning it. He's got good aspects but there's quite a few flaws there which will be found out at world level.
If he is a free agent then Selby has a lot of options, I just hope he stays active. I thought he looked a little rusty last night, it wasnt his best performance but his talent is obvious.
He was very close to stopping him (round 10 I think it was..) He had him out on his feet at the end of the round, ref was close to stepping in. Had he got him in trouble slightly earlier in the round I think he would of stopped him. He did take too many shots though. Could be partly due to lack of respect for Lindsay's power but certainly something he needs to work on when moving up in class. Otherwise I can see him coming unstuck very soon..
He needs to work on his defence , Lindsay caught him clean a lot last night. Against a bigger puncher he would have been knocked out. :bbb
Yeah true, I meant really nothing that landed looked like putting Lindsay away, it was going to have to be the ref jumping in. Agreed. I think a total disrespect for his opponents power might well have played a large part in it, but it is a bad habit to be getting into. If he fights like that regularly because he knows his opponent can't hurt him then it could become difficult to change when he needs to.
Definitely not a good habit to get into, regardless of how good you're chin is. Considering he's been out since May I thought he was pretty good. There's lots to like about Selby but I also think there quite a few negatives that need ironing out also if he's gonna fulfil his potential.
Selby is a ghetto Welshmen. I don't think I've ever seen anyone from Wales carry that sort of swag to the ring. Gangsters paradise! He rides children's bikes and walks out to rap. What I like about Selby is that he hasnt tried to copy anyone to the fullest, he has tried to combine different styles together to make his own. However, defensively he is so open, and if he fought a true power puncher, he would have been knocked out. IMO Selby can go far if he can tighten up defensively. His instinct and punch selection is top notch, he doesn't just head hunt, he goes to the body. Some of those angled body shots he dug in were brutal, he knew he hurt Lindsay, and he kept finding ways to land in that same spot. Brutal. No messing about. Lindsay IS a warrior, the very definition, he took unbelievable punishment, especially to the body and still went the full distance.
What i like about the G is fact he's comfortable in the ring it's his home. He knows what he's about. Boxes to a plan, he fights at different ranges all with success and also the fact he knows his way around a ring. If he's out of position he knows to get head low and tucked to avoid anything. He's got a nice variation of punches, he can punch hard and believe me Lindsay felt those punches. Lee took foot of gas to much he could of finished him twice on the night with one time the bell saving Lindsay. Yes he got clipped by shots, silly shots but Lindsay is still a good technician and a good fighter. I think at times it was lapses of concentration as he toyed with Lindsay. He took control of the crowd. He's a young fighter still really and he took the crowd out of the fight early on very smart move. He boxes with maturity yes he acts silly at times but he's a natural fighter you can see he's bred for this sport. What i liked was the side steps to offset Lindsay and create angles and changing of levels and how easy he grooved from long range into short without losing form or stance. The boy is good, The defense needs to tighten up but tbh i expected he'd ship more then that last night. He's learning and this journey's gonna be fun. He's beaten 3 guys who are not just domestic level but are European level..
I don't like the **** with all his cockiness, it'll be nice seeing him KTFO with his swiss cheese defence once he moves up in levels
