What next for the British fighters that fought Saturday?

Firstly I'd like to say that it was a very entertaining show and what PPV should actually be like!! 3 World Title fights + good domestic dust ups!! only the Kell Brook and Anthony Joshua fights were a little disappointing! But where do the British fighters go next?

Dave Ryan vs John Wayne Hibbert: This was a great way to start the evening and I'm sure that anyone watching that as a free view fight almost certainly bought the PPV!!

Both of these fighters are at the highest level for their talent and imo Dave Ryan will get beat when he has to box Bradley Saunders. He gives his all and is a very tough guy but I think Bradley will hit too hard for him.

It will be hard for John Wayne Hibbert to come back from that defeat but he might get another shot at the Commonwealth belt

John Ryder vs Nick Blackwell Another great fight, ryder showed good skills but so did Nick Blackwell. I think that Ryder would have carried on and got the win had he not got the cut but Nick looks like a bit of a monster at the weight and has been in tough fights on his way up!

I would like to see Nick Blackwell vs Spike O'Sullivan, Eubank jnr, big Brum clash with Matthew Macklin! If he can continue to improve then i see him get the Euro title and a shot at a world title.

John was unlucky as i mentioned earlier with the cut putting him off his eggs a bit but Eddie needs to keep him at that kind of level and keep him in fights that he will learn from and maybe have to come through some bad spells so when he challenges again he is ready for anything that happens ie cuts/knockdowns etc

Scott Cardle vs Craig Evans:This was much more enjoyable than i thought it would be!! I didn't think the styles would gel very well and after a couple of rounds it got very entertaining. I actually think if they had a rematch that Craig Evans would win.

Scott Cardle did well on Saturday but I personally think he will come unstuck against the top Lightweights in domestic scene would like to see him vs Richard Commey, Gary Buckland or Tommy Coyle. I see Luke Campbell beating him within 12 months for his British Title if he still has it!

Craig Evans can come again, he is definitely more technical than Cardle and the fact it was his biggest fight and first one at Lightweight makes me think he can pick up a domestic title in the future. Would like to see him vs Commey, Buckland or Coyle too.

Lee Selby reminded me on Saturday of what he is really capable of!! Cuts or no cuts on Saturday Gradovich was outclassed, Lee was picking him apart from the first bell and he would have stopped Gradovich late due to the volume of shots he was eating. Would like to see Lee Selby make a couple of defences against good world class opposition like Jhonny Gonzales before looking to unify titles but it will all depend on how easy he makes Featherweight!

Kevin Mitchell was very unlucky imo, he looked like he was finally going to get his world title before that damage to the left eye. I really believe he would have held on but once the swelling started Linares showed his experience and worked on it and Kevin at the end just couldn't see the punches coming to avoid them like he did earlier in the fight. If i was Eddie i would try get the rematch if it's possible because it is a winnable fight for Kevin if not then i'd like to see him back in at Euro level.

Anthony Joshua looked good again but lets be honest, what did Kingpin have left? Not much it looked on Saturday! I give Anthony big credit for stopping him so quickly and he really does look ready for the British title asap Gary Cornish, Dillian Whyte, David Price and Dereck Chisora would be a great way to win the British outright and answer some questions. Those fights would be achievable within 12 months and he woudl be ready for the European straight after.

Kell Brook vs Frankie Gavin I fully expected Kell to beat Frankie but I never thought it would be so easy for Kell, i though it would have took him till halfway point to work Frankie out and end up beating him on points but Kell looked so much bigger and I think Frankie couldn't deal with the size/strength of a big Welter.

Frankie Gavin will have to sit down with his team and make a proper decision if he is going to dedicate himself to all the aspects of his boxing including diet/strength & conditioning and deciding if he really can make Light Welter because he just isn't big enough and doesn't hit hard enough for Welterweight. Even then it might not help because the top guys at light welter are pretty formidable too!!

Kell imo is ready for any Welterweight in the world now and Eddie needs to start matching him against any of them. Apart from Floyd I think he can beat all of the rest too. After watching Amir Khan against Algieri although it would be a big money fight in the UK I can't see how Amir beats Kell, Amir was eating right hands and looking fragile against Algieri and Kell is massive for the weight and punches much harder than Algieri!!

 

Unless Craig doesn't live the life he was really struggling with 9st 6lb when he fought Ronnie Clark in London, he had 3 attempts to make the weight and was still slightly over on the 3rd attempt. Think he just needs to fight more often and against better opposition at Lightweight to let him grow into the weight!

On Anthony Joshua, I 'd really like to see him win the British outright before stepping up!
