There are still some great fights left at WW. If he beats Fitch, and then beats Shields, he can go up and challenge Anderson if that is still an interesting fight at that point. GSP is ridiculous, though. He is ahead of his time in this game.
both gsp and silva have challengers already lined up for a few fights, but i really want this fight to happen
No way do I want to see a second Fitch fight, GSP prooved pretty conclusively that Fitch has nothign for him at all. The way Shields looked in his last fight doesnt really have me looking forward to that match either. Right now a rematch with Alves is the only semi interesting fight at WW for him if you ask me now Thaigo seems to have sorted out his weight cutting issues.
Fitch deserves a rematch more that Kos did. Something would be seriously wrong if Alves got a rematch before Fitch, considering how Fitch just dominated him not too long ago.
Theres a difference between "deserving" a match and thinking it would be a good fight. Fitch really has nothing for GSP, baring a freak injury theres really no way for him to win that fight. Personally I think Alves weight cutting problems were a massive factor in the second Fitch fight aswell. Now does seem like a good time for GSP to make the move to 185 to me, have BJ/Fitch and Alves/Shields in a 4 man GP for the belt.
GSP already beat BJ twice and dominated both Fitch and Alves when he fought them. There's no need for the tourney, just give him shields.
Anderson has Vitor Belfort to worry about first. Regardless though I think its time for GSP to seek out a challenge and move up to 185. I cant see how anyone thinks theres anything out there at 170 for GSP. Fitch ? GSP already dominated him for 25 minutes what has Fitch done since to prove hes made the improvements to make a rematch competitive ? Apparently Jake Shields is next and while his resume is quality he was dead tired in a 3 round fight with Kampmann whats he going to do with a great grappler and striker in a 25 minute fight ? I wouldnt care if BJ knocked Fitch's head into the 30th row he doesnt deserve a 3rd fight and obviously Koscheck is out of title contention as long as GSP is the Champ. Thiago Alves ? Been there done that. Carlos Condit, Jake Ellenberger are a couple of top 10 caliber fighters out there but they have done nothing to prove they are ready for a title shot.
Shields deserves his shot at GSP before any move, and even then GSP should only move if he feels he needs to and is allowed to do it over time. The weight classes in MMA are simply too far apart to have fighters moving between them constantly; 15lbs is a lot, unlike in say boxing where going up a weight class can sometimes mean simply cutting a little less weight. Also Anderson Silva is a big 185, has fought succesfully at 205 already, and has thought about moving there full time, so it is an even bigger jump to fight Silva than it would be to fight another 185er.
