WHAT on EARTH is TUA DOING??

Tua is doing a disservice to his fans by letting them believe that he earnestly wants to be a heavyweight champion. Its clear that hes just fighting every so often as a living, not b/c he has high aspirations.

 

Tua had an aunt and close personal advisor friend die last month, thereby cancelling his fight in October. He came to NZ for the funeral. He said he wanted to get back into action at the end of Nov. The Sunday News in NZ reported a fight happening on Jan 25th. Too long, me thinks. But boxers have to deal with their personal life too.

 

Were any names mentioned for the fight in January?

 

If Tua would step up and fight a Top30 guy like Meehan or Williamson or Mollo he would be back in the title mix very soon . But he is fighting bums as long as he loses via SD10 against one of the bums.

No names mentioned, left hook. But with two months out, it should be someone better than, say, a Robert Hawkins.

 

Tua seems to be taking baby steps in his comeback, as Mesi is.

But if they don't think they are ready for better opposition yet, you can't blame them. A loss would be devastating at this point, so carefully progessing at a pace they think they are ready for, must be of utmost importance. Tua getting beaten, at this point, would probably do him in.

 

Like to see how he would fare now against Friday Ahunanya? (spelling)

 

Granted that in his last two fights the opposition wasn't the best,it was still good to see the Tuaman opening up and not being as tentative as he was in his earlier comeback fights.

 

He's fighting again in January. Like a few posters have said his aunt died and so did a close friend so he pulled out of his October date with Tim Williamson which is a shame but so is the fact his Aunt and friend died!

It's really only 2 1/2 months until his January date which is ok, not ideal i suppose but better than 6 months or so! He should fight one more tune-up then then get amongst the Top 30!

Forget how he would go against Ahunyana we all now know how he would do against Cameron KO/TKO inside of 6!

 

Man if you don't like David Tua that's your choice.The least you could do though if you choose to post on here is post something a bit more constructive.But I suppose a ****** like yourself would find that too difficult.

 

Shamrock, a Friday is what he needs. He's got the pedigree, but not the ranking. There are easier, more rewarding fights for him. But I agree, he needs a step up from Hawkins. Friday would be it.

Tua needed to fight someone in Nov-Dec to stay active. Now he's 4 months between fights. Unless it's against a ranked fighter in Jan, and he's training the house down for it, the Tua camp languishes.

 

Weight-wise, this has been his best year since '99.
But if he's not up to fighting quality at the moment, he needs to be fighting quantity, and he needs at least one more fight this year IMO.

I would be trying to get him someone in December, doesn't have to be a great opponent but aim to better the 243lbs last time out and get a good knockout. Then set up a opponent ranked in the Top Ten of your chosen target belt for around Feb or March. There are a few guys ranked well out there that would seem to be worthwhile matches for Tua, guys like a Mollo or Moorer (again).

2008 really has to be the year when Tua either goes for it or just saves us all a lot of time and retires. If he's still knocking about journeymen by the end of it then it aids no-one.

 

Good point, Damon D. If Tua isn't going to be stepping up his level of competition, he should at least be fighting often. A December fight would seem doable. It's been about five years since Tua beat a top guy, and that was Fres Oquendo. He needs to make his move pretty quickly.
