Watched Mike DeJohn spar at 5th ST.Gym with a young, not-yet-heavyweight Cassius Clay, who wanted no part of mixing it up. Cringed at thought of one DeJohn's sweeping hooks launching him into space.

I'm not sure that happened to Marciano enough to consider it a trademark or a characteristic with a pattern.

How many times was he knocked down? Twice? Walcott and Moore?

But Rocky did get buzzed a lot by good punchers,'n he acted exactly as he had with Moore, BB

Very true, and it is a rare quality, there are a few fighters who were dangerous when buzzed but off hand very few, Rocky stayed calm but showed his power as soon as the swinging started....Good insight John

I think this was a part of Marciano's overall mentality in the ring.

He was totally focused on destroying his opponent and ending the fight. He was unaware of anything else, including pain and often times the sound of the bell:)

How so, SP? Was it less than advertised on the thread; or were you expecting something revolutionary, never seen before?

It was his ruthless determination more then the ability.

He never really took a sustained beatdown like Louis did against Schmeling.

Now Marquez. There's a fighter. If you have the audacity to hit him flush, it's just like pressing the on button of a blender.

    A fistic blender.
