What Other Eras Could Ezzard Charles Do well At Heavyweight?

If Charles had been born ten years later I don't know that Floyd would have ever been champion. I'm also not sure Marciano would have finished his career undefeated.

 

I think he’d do well up to about Liston. Liston and after he’d struggle as heavy weights simply got bigger at a time when there was no cruiser weight division. Height and reach aside he’d simply be too small. He’d do well in some fights but would be better off trying to get back to light heavyweight where he’d dominate any era up to Spinks.

 

Anytime before him and then up until Liston. After that I find it difficult for him to be seen winning a strap although he would be very strong contender until the 80s where he picks ups straps against Weaver, Coetzee, Witherspoon, Thomas, etc. In saying that though most of them were much larger bodies than him and had decent chins so if he can’t keep them off him; he wasn’t known for his power so maybe not a sure thing. Maybe once the belts were split in the 90s too he might be able to pick one up as did (not taking anything away from their accomplishments) Seldon, Bruno, and some of the WBO belt holders of the time before it was really seen as a serious belt.

He would of done well in any. There would be times he wouldnt be the top guy, but always top ten at leaat. When he gets to the 80s and later hop him up on PEDs and watch him go.

Needa read up more on his era of heavyweights but also unfortunate that so much film is lost in time. Ofc he had the skill to compete in any but I dont see him doing great in the 70s or 90s. Maybe a few decent wins here n there but definitely a monster at LHW n later on Cruiser once that got made. Would b interesting to see him against Spinks n Holy.
