He might not have been, but it would'nt have hurt Ray's legacy. It would've only enhanced it.

Him not murdering Duran didn't hurt him. And let's be honest, Duran only was able to fight at 160 because of his love for food. So I don't see how beating Ray in 82' would've hurt him.

It never hurts to beat somebody of that level of skill and fame, no matter when you beat them.

Shame a lot of those potential fights didn't come off (Leonard-Curry and Leonard-McCallum would've been Ace too), although I'm ultimately pleased with how the era turned out as a whole, with the primary exception being how Duran is consequently viewed by many fans today. It may be crazy, but I give Leonard 50/50 odds against Hearns and 40/60 against peak Hagler. That's how talented I think the guy was and part of the reason I rate Duran's win over him as being amongst the best ever.

It's a good thing I really like Duran or I'd use Tommy Hearns to blow your argument out of the duckpond. Why are you comparing Duran's performance against Camacho to Ray's?
Most people treat Ray's fight with Camacho for what it is;an unnecessary aberration caused by Ray's foolish pride.
And for the record,I think Cholo is a magnificent fighter who easily resides in my all time top 10.

I have to say mate,Tyson 86-89 was quite something to behold.:yep
Although it shows my predicting skills can dip badly because I really thought Spinks would give him a test.

I was shitting in pampers when Tyson fought Spinks. :rofl

Fortunately, it's rather easy to catch up and rip out the details of boxing history within the last four decades or so and there's film of pretty much everything even partially relevant. Your post is a perfect example of why I feel Tyson's win over Spinks would be viewed as greater if it'd gone the distance and Tyson survived a knockdown. Preposterous. Turns out, you werent alone in your view of Spinks posing a real challenge to him as evidenced by the multitude of pre-fight hype, articles and opinions that had a very notable amount of people predicting the same. People have gone to great lengths as it pertains to revisionist history in regards to that win.

I was around 11 when Spinks fought Holmes the first time and that was the first time I watched a fight and wondered why the wrong guy won.
I was still hooked though, and I've never had close friends who shared my love of boxing, only acquaintances.
    But I digress! Sorry guys.

I think getting KO'D by a one of the p4p hardest hitters in a prime Hearns is a little diferent than getting KO'D by a past prime former FW Comacho, is just should not happen.

Yeah I like Comacho too , but need to watch more of his prime.

Yep, that is a bad comparison.

Hearns was P4P one of the hardest hitters ever.
