If you could take a man off the street for certain weight division. What abnormal physical attributes would you take, that you think you could teach them to be successful?? What would you teach them?? For instance. Suppose you have a light heavy who was 6'6'' tall, with no history in boxing and limited co-ordination. How far could you get on cherry picked fights. Or for instance a brutally big, top heavy cruiser, with a weak chin, and no legs. Or a big fat out of shape heavy with genuine KO power, but no stamina. What would be your ideal scenario for a limited fighter with at least one seemingly abnormal attribute. How would you manage the next two years from start to finish?
i would go for a lighter weighted fighter who just has natural speed and reflexes. even with no experience they can be taken far, and its always possible to bulk someone up a little...
A guy with a great chin. Work on his conditioning next. And then move him along slowly until his skills catch up to his chin & stamina.
is it not possible that even if he has a good enough chin at the start, if his defence is crap and he gets a lot of blows to the head, that by the time his skills have caught up his chin mightn't be there anymore...
Give me a guy who is prepared to work, I think that is the most important atribute. How many guys are in gyms that have great chins and rely on that instead of hard ****in work. To go on that note I watched a clip of Johan Linde (Aussie Heavy for the olympics) doing a round outmoving then dropping George Poulivaati with a massive right hand. I will try to post it on here.
The obvious one would be the giant heavyweights like Valuev. They are sideshows, but without an upper weight limit these guys are hard to handle. They dont need to have a lot of speed or fitness, just ko power and strength. Mind you, Haye proved that they are beatable on points using the highland method.......hit and run!
I think anyone with genuine KO power in both hands. You can teach defense, work on condition, footwork & handpseed but you can't teach natural raw power. Thats what I'd go for.
Agree with you. But if you don't have a good chin and you aren't a young, unhittable Roy Jones Junior, you are in trouble.
Its easy for me to pick ,, I've trained a few who had it but were not to skillful yet went further than i thought they would ,, I've trained a few who had real good natural skills , but missed this element and did'nt do has good has i would of expected . What is it , Mongrel in em ,, that pit bull agression that comes natural to them and you can't teach it in others . ..
