Corrales was huge compared to Hamed, it would hardly be a shock if he beat him for that alone.you;re talking a guy who could have fought for years at Bantam\super bantam had he been guided that way(and not into a feather WBO fight against limited but popular domestic opposition in Robinson) vs a weight cutting natural lightweight that had the frame to potentially go up as far as Welter. as a fighter he was no better really. Both leaned heavily on their power and were very flawed in other ways.Corrales defence\reflexive ability was garbage, his chin weak(more so at 130 because of the weight cutting) and his ring-generalship was inept despite having the tools to fight tall very well with his long jab and straight punches.Footwork non-existant etc he was basically a big puncher that threw the basic punches very well and had range\size on his side.Dangerous, but all of the extra assets that were there to make him a great fighter were missing and he was totally overhyped circa the Mayweather and casa fights.not the kind of fighter i'd be bringing up to moan about not getting in instead of Hamed, Bowe or whoever else.
What revisionist BS. Guys coming up in weight? He started at 115lbs standing at only 5'4 and won his first title at bantam, he won his first FW title in his first fight at the weight but yes he was making guys come up in weight. Barrera was robbed in the first Morales fight, no one considered him on the downside after that he was P4P top10. But yes the guy coming off a robbery in the super bantam unification was 'considered the weakest link'. It was the biggest fight around at the time for good reason. Marquez's offer was a career high payday too, his management was very poor at this time.
Given he was about 30lbs heavier and 6 inches taller that's possible but irrelevant to their P4P ratings. Hamed hit harder enough to deck Corrales though.
